Exactly, hence why they compromise on 4/44, or 40. I know it pains you that Marcus will be around for awhile, it's okay buddy.

Who doesn’t love Smart shooting 4 for 15 when Jayson Tatum has 5 shot attempts?

Smart took 15 shots or more three times last year, Tatum took 12/12/11 shots in those games.

Everyone, this is a good example of what i mean about anti Smart people always using hyperbole to fail at proving their points. Know what people do love? Outscoring the other team, and thats what the Celtics did all year when Smart played.

I think it was kind of obvious that despite the numbers Celts17 was making a general point and it wasn't super specific / researched

There's plenty of examples going the other way such as:
- soxfan saying the Celts and not Smart would be losers if this marriage ends (keep in mind Jordan Crawford, Turner, Bradley, Crowder, IT all looking worse to much worse upon leaving)
- soxfan saying Smart leaving destroys the Celts chances at a title
- valid telling people to take the L and go home (LMAO whaaaaaaat)

In general though I think most people generally agree and are just arguing over minor points because there's nothing else to talk about. Sure there are some people who think he doesn't deserve $8 and some who thinks he deserves $14 or $15 but most people see his value in the $10-12 range. The two most likely outcomes are he ends up back here on the QO or a 4 year deal in the $10-12/year range.

It's too Hush-Hush.
I don't think he's meeting with anybody.

Actually looks like Smart and his agent are in Vegas, trying to catch some teams' brass in the stands.

I think there's no question but that Danny more than communicated that.

Smart and his agent are embarrassing themselves here.

As I said before. Danny already offered Smart a Good Deal. = A year ago.
So, Ainge is not inclined to rush back into negotiations.

I disagree. I think there is a question... I don't think it's clear Ainge wants to negotiate beyond the QO. I'm starting to believe that Smarts frustration is bc Ainge is not offering more than the QO and is willing to go with the QO next season unless smart signs an offer sheet...

No reason to rush into negotiations. Smart back on the QO keeps us below the lux tax while having a super deep bench. If we resign Smart to a 4 year deal Danny will have work to do moving Yabs and Nader or we have to dump Morris or we start paying lux tax this year. All 3 are negative situations for the Celts.

Cap is scheduled to go up ~15% in two years. At that discount, a 12M deal is closer to a 10M deal in today’s cap.

On the flip side, if we get him at 10m, it's like 8m in today's cap

4/48 would start around 10.65 while 4/44 would start at 9.76. Either way, we would probably have to shave a million or two if we are going to sign Bird and still slip under the tax.

I agree, I'm one of the king Tatum fanboys. But let's not act like Tatum flat out wouldn't look for his shot a bunch this year.

Honestly I could care less if Smart is back or not. Hayward coming back and the strides that Rozier continues to make will mean less and less minutes for Smart and that’s great for the Celtics

I'm with you. If Smart's the soul of this team, after his antics this summer I think the team needs a new soul.

Nevermind, I'm probably wrong. Are raises based on just the 1st year or based on the previous year?

You mean spending it with his cancer stricken mom while his agent took care of contract stuff? Yeah what a jackass, how dare he. Too bad he's not affiliated with the Bloods like Terry.

I think it would be obvious that I am referring to his quotes about his contract and the C's.

Oh,and I guess you liked better Smart throwing rocks at people's heads in his past.

What antics are you referring to? We've barely heard directly from Smart other than him tweeting about spending time with his Mom. Any "reports" from sources in his camp aren't necessarily coming from him/or true for that matter.

No, because I don't care about their pasts. And I don't believe every baseless story, that would be gullible. And which quotes would those be? That he thinks he's worth a lot of money? Oh what a monster, what a bad "soul" of the team.

Because anything else isnt from him, I think everyone has acknowledged that his agent sucks. Knocking him for his apparent antics while he's spent the summer with his mom is garbage and you know it.

Smart is desperate to get an offer so Celtics will match. Otherwise he has to settle for QO. Celtics aren’t making any other offers it seems.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Good Smart reminds me of Ron Artest - but bad Smart is like a poor man's Randy Brown.. So I really don't mind if they resign him. But signing Smart to a big contract feels like one of those stupid things other GMs do - ya know the guys who sign big stiff centers to huge contracts for that 'inside presence.' Now this as fallen out of favour..

But DA is a guy who passed on the best defensive players at the SG/PG/SF spot in the last 20 years - Tony Allen. He can sure the heck pass on Marcus Smart if the price is wrong..

Marcus thinks he’s getting 12-14 million in the 2019 offseason if he signs the QO this year and plays it out. I garuntee you he’s thinking that and I garuntee you he’ll be offered no more than 8 million by some bad team and that’s me being charitable. He needs the ball in his hands on offense to be effective cause of his P&R skill set which is really good if I were to be fair to him. His Defense speaks for itself but he shoots the ball all day like he’s The star of a team n he misses everything all the time. Every layup he ever made hit the rim first. Every layup he ever missed hit the rim too. Never swished a layup ever in his life.

If smart could actually shoot he would be looking at more money. The guy has been in the league for four years and he still can’t shoot over 36 percent. That’s terrible. Good defender though.
