Clearly there is no ironing out of the contract details right now.

S/T Smart for Brooks or Selden and I'm game.

Kyrie-Brown-Hayward-Tatum-Horford
Rozier-Selden-Morris-Theis-Baynes
Wanamaker-Bird-Semi-Yabu-Williams

Boom. Done. Call it an off season. Team is stacked and very deep

Caveat to this Smart negotiation is that Boston really likes both Wanamaker and Bird. Those 2 guys along with Semi are ready for rotation minutes. It's going to be some great competition between those guys fighting for rotation minutes. Add in Selden or Brooks too. Damn. Brad has a luxury of hard nosed, versatile players to work with

Just my two cents of speculation.

Cant see Thibs not asking for one of our starting wings.

Won't happen, Stevens doesn't like him.

Too lazy to check if anyone posted this but this is a pretty glaring example of how valuable he is to the team and his teammates when he is on the floor. Speaks volumes about his importance.

It really doesn't. So both Smart and Irving missed the last 15 games of the year and we went 9-6 because we kind of gave up on the #1 seed. Did we miss Smart or Irving or was it the fact that we were playing our 15,16,17th guys. Smart is a good player of course we are better with him than without but we are better with all of our good players than we are without.

We were better with Kelly Olynyk too and we survived.

Yes we would. I think folks are sometimes forgetting to take into account just how mid-range-contract-sparse our payroll is. We'd love to get [Smart at 8-9mil / year] I'm sure, but [Smart at 11-12mil / year] is better than [not Smart], both because he contributes at least in the vicinity of that pay grade, and because it gives us a very useful salary for matching for the next couple of years.

I always say, "make decisions down the roster, not up". I don't want to have to give Yabusele away for nothing while there's still the slightest possibility of finding a way to not take a zero on that asset, but, I'd rather take a zero on Yabs than on Smart.

Respectually disagree. As much for him chucking 14 bad shots a game and forcing bad passes as for the salary. I'm going to leave it at this (nothing against or your stance but I'm sure the board doesn't want me to keep repeating myself).

for a guy who averaged 9.5 shot attempts per game the entire season and the playoffs, but sure. 14.

It doesn’t seem that Mr. Butler is a very likable fellow. Had problems with his teammates in Chicago although Rondo is rather prickly himself and now again with these latest allegations in Minnesota. Makes sense that Brad would want nothing to do with him

This is annoying now. These other teams aren't going to put up the cash to sign smart away. Cut the BS. He's going to play next year on the QO and the celtics will patch things up with him during the season.

I get the sense that Ainge would like to move him instead having a player on a QO is kind of a pain in the ass and it rarely ends well. The Marcus Smart S&T was always a part of the off season plan. Boston doesn't have a lot of tradeable contracts turning him into an 8-12 mil contract whether to deal immediately or in time was honestly part of the organization plan.

Rubbed Brad the wrong way when they met, he's got that Demarcus Cousins comparison off the court.

Is that the guy that said Tyreke to Boston was basically a done deal back before the deadline?

Yeah I'm basically under the impression Smart is 100% gone next offseason if he signs the QO.

Even more specifically he seems to be a jerk to his younger teammates that was the issue Rondo got into him about. They would lose games and Butler and Wade would blame the younger guys on the team. Rondo was like KG and Pierce never blamed me or Perk when we lost a game (maybe Big Baby).

The thing is that Butler might be right, that KAT isn't playing hard enough on the defensive end or Wiggins isn't being aggressive enough or whatever but sometimes it can't come from you, lets be honest does anyone think Thibs has a hard time getting into guys? Butler would probably be good on a veteran team to keep guys motivated but with young guys you can start to wear them down.

Sounds more and more like Happy is trying to kick up interest in Smart - which is his job - by extracting passing mentions of sign and trades and running them up the flagpole to manufacture leverage.

I think that this is the process it is just happening quickly because I think Marcus wants this resolved. So in most cases this is the point where RFAs get their offer sheets. If it doesn't happen the next step is usually S&T deals that happen at the end of July beginning of August. I think the taking the QO thing is his agent I think Marcus wants this resolved, if he can get a lot of money to relocate then sure he will do that but if not get a deal done with Boston.

Nah, it was clear. I just couldn't help myself with the selective reading.

Ainge and Zarren are laughing. Happy is negotiating like an amateur. Guy has no leverage
