The only teams with cap space are:

Atlanta 21 Million
Sacramento 19.4 Million
Chicago 15.3 Million
Dallas 11.8 Million

None of those teams should be expected to make a run at Marcus Smart.
So the best offer Smart has on the table for next season is the Celtics Qualifying Offer of $6,050,000.

Maybe this skyrocketing salary trend is finally settling back down to earth a bit?

Sucks for Marcus but it's a good reality as far as keeping this team intact....

I believe BKN has $8.4 million in cap space with cap holds and their pick included, so if they deal their pick and Whitehead in a sign-n-trade that provides them with more cap space...

Smart detractors: "NO ONE wants Smart in a sign-and-trade. NO ONE."

*two weeks later*

"Nets and Grizzlies interested in sign-and-trade for Marcus Smart."

Lmao.

Regardless, I think he ends up back here.

To be fair, that was reported WELL before free agency, things change, and it was Stephen A not Woj or Lowe. Whereas the teams wanting to s&t for Smart is being reported after their interest.

I’m guessing you also believed the report that Sacramento was going to make Smart an offer, as well as all of the other misinformation we are hearing.

Would anyone be ok with DAR coming back in a Smart sign-and-trade, maybe along with Lin?

Wed be over the cap.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

Eh. Not really. I think part of the reason the Cs would consider a S and T would be to stay under the tax this year. DAR and Lin is a lot of Salary. I’d rather keep Smart

sam_I_am wrote:The sign and trade rumors suggest to me that the original thread premise is correct. Jackie McMullin was spot on when she said Smart was going for the money.

If Smart's team is having other teams engage Ainge and the Celtics in sign and trade opportunities it definitely suggests that Marcus Smart is more concerned about getting paid than remaining a member of the Boston Celtics.

I don't blame Marcus Smart one bit. Get paid while you can.

Seems like a big thing for contenders is having a Kyle Korver level shooter coming off your bench for 15-20 minutes. Smart may not be that level of shooter but perhaps Kyle Korver is.

Anybody know why Smart QO is 6 million but Jabari Parker QO is only 4.3 million? I assumed Jabari would be higher as he was a higher draft pick and had a bigger rookie deal.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Where are you seeing that number? I believe the correct QO is 7.375 million

I believe BKN has $8.4 million in cap space with cap holds and their pick included, so if they deal their pick and Whitehead in a sign-n-trade that provides them with more cap space...

Brooklyn has about 96,440,525 for 10 players without Whitehead and their pick, but including the Dwight Howard Buy-out and Deron Williams Stretch. If you add a roster charge for an 11th player they have about 4.7 Million, but that excludes the 1.6 million cap hold on their #29 pick. Just realized that the guarantee date for Whitehead's salary has passed, so Whitehead is now guaranteed for 1.544 million, further reducing their space.
