The only teams with cap space are:

Atlanta 21 Million
Sacramento 19.4 Million
Chicago 15.3 Million
Dallas 11.8 Million
.

I believe BKN has $8.4 million in cap space with cap holds and their pick included, so if they deal their pick and Whitehead in a sign-n-trade that provides them with more cap space...

Brooklyn has about 96,440,525 for 10 players without Whitehead and their pick, but including the Dwight Howard Buy-out and Deron Williams Stretch. If you add a roster charge for an 11th player they have about 4.7 Million, but that excludes the 1.6 million cap hold on their #29 pick. Just realized that the guarantee date for Whitehead's salary has passed, so Whitehead is now guaranteed for 1.544 million, further reducing their space.

Are u counting the Harris resigning? Iirc he has a much lower cap hold which puts them at 8.4m until his deal is official.

So if Smart isn’t on our team next season, who will be the next player on our team that garners as much love vs hate and that we create countless numbers of threads over? I’m guessing Rozier or maybe Brown(if he doesn’t continue to improve)?

I feel like Williams is an obvious candidate.

That or everyone converges on Morris.

Both good candidates.

We won't see much of Williams in his rookie season to have strong opinions on him one way or the other. If he continues missing appointments or practices, maybe we'll have something to talk about.

Morris isn't polarizing.

Probably Rozier, whose RFA is up next.

Even more specifically he seems to be a jerk to his younger teammates that was the issue Rondo got into him about. They would lose games and Butler and Wade would blame the younger guys on the team. Rondo was like KG and Pierce never blamed me or Perk when we lost a game (maybe Big Baby).

The thing is that Butler might be right, that KAT isn't playing hard enough on the defensive end or Wiggins isn't being aggressive enough or whatever but sometimes it can't come from you, lets be honest does anyone think Thibs has a hard time getting into guys? Butler would probably be good on a veteran team to keep guys motivated but with young guys you can start to wear them down.

Still somewhat of a newbie so might be widely known by the board but who are you if you can share? Obviously played with RR at some point by this statement. I'd love to know more. I actually loved RR despite all the grief. I'm almost sure not Sullinger by your join date, etc.

Good grief no I was just quoting Rondo (apparently poorly) when he tried to stand up for the young guys on the Bulls when Butler and Wade were scapegoating them for the team's struggles.

Lmao.

Regardless, I think he ends up back here.

Please go find a post a were someone referenced no one being interested in a sign and trade of Marcus Smart. I have participated in this thread pretty thoroughly and I don't remember that conversation happening. Lots of people said it didn't look like he was going to get an offer sheet and he isn't at least not one for more the MLE.

There's nothing you could bring back in a sign and trade that would approximate the value Marcus Smart brings to this team. Even with convoluted cap space requirements you're still looking at adding on 6 - 12 million dollars worth of salary for a replacement. That being the case, it only makes sense to bring back Marcus one year at $6M or on a multiple year deal at 10 - 12M.

Semi also may not get as easy a pass this year if he plays more and doesn't hit 3s.

I dont understand why it's taken so long. Are teams really gonna wait 2 damn weeks to show interest in Marcus smart known all year he was gonna be a rfa?

It's clear to me hes coming back, so it's either on the qo, or negotiating on a longer term deal.

Either way, it's a obscene amount of time for a player or his caliber.

Counting Harris with an estimate of $8 million. FYI: Many times these deals are signed but not announced. So they may have "inked" Harris. But since his cap hold is 6.5 million less than his 2019 salary the Nets would obviously try to delay that as long as possible.

So the Nets would be at 93.2 million without Harris, but with his Cap Hold, which would leave a starting salary of about 8.66 million for their 12th player minus 1.66 million for Cap Hold for their #29 pick which = a starting salary of about 7 million. That number is not so high that the Celtics could just match it. I think we you may get confused is that although they can go over the cap to sign their own free agents, they still have cap holds for their #29 pick, unless they renounce the pick.

More Al Horford stuff probably. Makes too much money, doesn’t rebound enough, etc.

I still hope Smart resigns with the Celtics.

If the Celtics front office hasn’t reached out to Smart yet, that’s but part of the NBA business sometimes. Ainge is just waiting. If someone offers Smart a contract and Ainge feels that amount makes sense to match the offer, he will.
