We should've drafted that guy who's pretty likely to miss the entire season and show off his suit collection at every game this year.

I think if you'll check the game day thread, the last medical report had everybody off the MPJ train. So.....

It seems that most fanbases are recognizing his potential. WCJ could be the best all around big in this draft and has a chance to even win ROY. Exciting time to be a Bulls fan

I think its almost a lock (if healthy) he makes the All-Rookie team. Not sure he will put up the numbers needed to win Rookie of the Year.

I re-read the first several pages of this thread yesterday, it's a hoot. Says a lot about certain posters.

I remain wholly unimpressed by Matas and would be very upset not only if we trade up fo him, but if we even draft him at 11

Lol... I'm not sure if i'm in those pages, but I know what I would've said if I was.

To keep it short, nothing he's doing right now is surprising me...

Let me ask you this - please post Draymond Green's numbers in Summer League play and post Josh Selby's numbers in Summer League. Then maybe you will find out why I wouldn't change my mind based off of meaningless summer league games.

There’s a difference between a guard like Selby hunting shots in summer league and Wendell Carter showing an ability to guard in space, making the right decision on whether to roll or pop, block without fouling, setting good screens, rebounding in traffic. One guy is showing things that translate to the next level and one guy just tried getting buckets.

Ok. Draymond Green looked like poop in Summer league and he’s an all star now. Summer League has about a 1% correlation with how good someone will be in the NBA.

Draymond Green’s play in summer league means absolutely nothing either way in regards to Wendell Carter. Your argument here is poorly thought out and lacks any real basketball analysis.

The hardest part of evaluating bigs like Carter is there simply aren't enough good/big/athletic enough bigs at summer league to see how he'll play against legit, game changing bigs. I like the few things I've seen so far but it's so hard to say how it will translate.

Rolo is almost surely the better player at this point.

There is no reason to force Carter into a situation where his performance is going to get picked apart in the context of a starting Center.

Starting the season on the bench allows hm to get his bearings, see the speed of the game, and learn from a quality veteran's play on the court.

Trying to develop 5 young players, all on the court at the same time, is difficult. Anarchy on the court is not a good thing. Rolo can help identify and communicate issues on the court and help direct traffic, assignments, etc.

Seems some are afraid Zach will ball-hog. If he really is inclined to do that, put him on the court with 4 players with less years of service than he has. Lopez can at least be a stabilizing and guiding voice on the court who Zach will have to listen to.

Bringing Rolo off the bench will not help his trade value.

RoLo has no trade value. He's overpaid. He also is not a good player.

He should probably be bought out. Same with Holiday, although we should really be able to trade Holiday.
Wow. You shot down every one of my points piece by piece. I've been owned. You are indeed a master debater.

Do you think PHX should continue to start Tyson Chandler and play Ayton off the bench? It the exact same scenario.
None of my reasons for starting Lopez were because it is political, correct, ...or politically correct.

Why? How does starting day 1 help Carter's development? How does it position him for success than playing the same minutes off the bench?

There is absolutely no reason why he shouldn't. Not for the sake of Robin Lopez.Robin can come off the bench and be just as effective a player and or teacher.

I thought it was a given. If this team, who is in a rebuild and tanked last season away doesn't start the player they tanked for, what the hell are they thinking? No reason at all Lopez should be starting or playing more minutes than WCJ. None. No veteran entitlement starts or minutes.

The argument for starting Lopez is to play him with Markkanen and to help continue his development. He did a lot for Markkanen last season. It's a lot of WCJ to ask him to do all the little things Lopez did well for Markkanen and others, as well as producing for himself.

I would start Lopez for the first 20 or so games but ensure the rotation allows for Markkanen and WCJ to play together too.
Amen

Why? Because starting Lopez hasn't worked, solid as he is, and Carter seems more talented. So maybe he can help us win more. If he's able to keep rookie style errors limited, why not?

Yeah I wasn't sold on Carter and how good he could be defensively and felt he was a low upside move. I wanted the Bulls to trade down but glad that he has proven me wrong so far. I'm not even focused on his stats really, it's his feel that has impressed me.
