KO played to his deal and is a nice player.

Agreed KOs deal is pretty fair IMO. He could probably get that same deal this year.

I"m a KO fan, but would he have got a $50M deal in this market?

He may not have gotten 4 years, but $12.5m/yr definitely.

There is one for the taking if he signs the QO, but he should get the insurance a longterm deal gives him, considering his agent **** up Noels career. I dont think this will end well for Smart.

He should fire his agent.

Ainge is going to offer Smart a multiyear deal at a team friendly rate that he knows Marcus Smart won't take. Marcus Smart will take the 1 year QO at $6 million and become a UFA next year. Ainge can then either try to resign Smart or use one of the potential 4 first round picks to replace him. All this while staying below the tax line this year.

Textbook!

It isn't textbook Ainge. Textbook Ainge is to get Marcus to sign that 4/48 he offered a year ago. Looks like an overpay and then two years later it is a bargain when the cap goes up. That is what he was able to do with Bradley and Crowder. The other textbook move would have been to have traded Marcus at the trade deadline but whether injury or lack of interest could not get done. On the QO Marcus is a zero asset, a waste and that is an unfortunate outcome for the 6th pick in the draft. I think Ainge would prefer a S&T deal with a modest return than a disgruntled Smart on the QO.

Ainge always wanted Smart on the QO this off-season

To what end? So you have a player making 6 mil bucks on your roster that you can't trade without his permission and can walk for nothing at the end of the year. Sure you have his Bird Rights to resign him but you have that exclusively right now and can't get a deal done how does it get better next year?

When has a player taking the QO ended well for either the team or the player?

Sherrod said SAC are preparing an offer for Smart days ago. Does it really take that long? :P SMH Blakeley.

If that happens and I'm the Kings, I guess I give Capela the obligatory offer knowing HOU will match.

Then it looks like Parker isn't wanted by MIL but at anything sub 8 million BOS certainly wants Smart back (worse comes to worse we can trade him to avoid lux tax at that rate pretty easiely)... I'd low ball offer Parker.

Kings have to think long term

Fox/FMthe3rd
Bogdan/Heild
Justin Jackson
Marvin Bag 3rd
Giles/WCS

You can slide Parker into the SF and PF spot in your rotation pretty smoothly, and you're potentially getting him coming off an injurty discount with upside.

They could have an entire roster of 25 and under. Some of those guys with really high prospects, Giles and Parker are injury risk high upside cheap contract guys. Seems like a good position to be in, just hope some of them hit.

I think 2/20 makes a ton of sense for both sides. As you pointed out, it makes the tax avoidable. It's tradeable. If Smart takes the QO he'd need 14M in year one of his new deal to match the total 2 year salary. That said, I don't think Smart is being entirely rational at the moment.

To what end?

I thought I explained it pretty clearly in my first post.

I think there are really just 2 options left for Marcus Smart.

1. Take the QO or

2. Celtics can offer Smart a 2 year deal at $18 million or a 3 year deal at @27 million ($9 million per season), release Nader and sign Bird and still stay under the tax line without having to do other moves.

I will be very surprised if it's something else.

Signing Smart for $9M per year would put us over the luxury tax limit even before signing Jabari Bird.

Danny's been doing a good job keeping his scent sprayed all over Marcus.

When this Smart free agency started, the three TV channels were showing the Nixon-Kennedy debate. West Germany was doing well, the new 707 was exciting, DiMaggio was in the middle of his hitting streak.

If I Thomas is worth the minimum, then Smart is worth less than that.

There was a time when Thomas was the best offensive guard and worst defensive guard. Smart, one of the best defensive, and worst offensive. Both players have gone down in ability since then.

Overpaid LaVine (thanks to another dumb org). About to overpay Parker. Bulls should trade for Wiggins to complete the trifecta.

Have you people all lost your minds? Smart is a 6th -8th man, who is a defensive specialist, shoots 34% for the year, he is worth about 5 - 8 million at the very most.

10 million lol
12 million wtf?

4 years, 22 million, get er done

Nobody has lost their mind, perhaps you just haven’t followed the nba close enough to remember that the cap jumped significantly over the last few years. Hell, a MLE contract is 8.5 million a year these days. 4/22 is a joke offer for Smart

I think the Kings are messing up not going down this route.

I like Jabari, he is an injury risk but again he's shot the ball from 3 at a rate of 37-38% the past 2 years proving he's added that to his game and before he got cut down by the injury he was averaging 20 ppg 6 rpg 3 assists 1 steal on very good TS%. We're talking 49% fg and 37% from 3 percentages.

And that was in a Kidd offensive system that is notorious for being the worst we've seen in the NBA over the past 5 years.

There's a **** ton of upside in Jabari Parker. Perfect time to buy low on him.

That said, if the Bulls nab him, then honestly who else could the Kings give an offer to other than Smart? At that point their choice is "well do we want Marcus Smart or do we just want to sit on this 9 million? Maybe resign Vince Carter or some ****."

Literally, after Jabari Parker there is NO ONE of value out there... unless you count Rodney Hood. Who the Cavs will match just about any offer because why wouldn't they. Might as well.
