Re: Official Lonzo Ball Rookie Thread No. 1
First of all, Lonzo was still in high school 3 years ago.
At UCLA he only played 36 college level games.
In his rooke year not counting summer league he played 52 pro games.
He only averaged about 34 minutes in those 52 games which is about less than 2000 minutes.
He is young. He is still physically growing and under-developed.
He has demonstrated court vision and great passing skills.
His shooting needs working on. He has notn proven he has the physical endurance ad stamina to complete an 82 game regular season. This coming year is only his second season.
For those who compare him to Jason Tatum? Jason Tatum plays for the Celtics whose team has been consistently in the playoffs for several years. The Celtics do not need Jason Tatum to make the playoffs. Jason Tatum can have an off game and it won't matter.
Lonzo plays for the Lakers. Nevermind the last time the Lakers won a ring. The Lakers last year were not good enough to make the playoffs with or without Lonzo.
This year they have Lebron and the easy bet is the Lakers will get a playoff spot with or without Lonzo.
The difference?
Last year Lonzo had more pressure to play hard than this year.
This year Lonzo will have a year without a lot of pressure to play hard and lead this team. All he has to do is work on his shot and grow and better his overall game.
This year the Lakers will probably make the playoffs with or without Lonzo so no pressure on Lonzo.
Most important, he is still Magic's first top draft pick.
Yeah Lavar is annoying but he has pretty much shut up and is for the most part irrelevant.
Lonzo still has 4 more rookie contract years to go so he is as cheap as he can get.
Lonzo is so far good. He may not be a major factor this year and even next year but he still has time to grow.
I am not betting that Magic will trade him away even if he says Kuz is the only one who is untouchable.
I believe they will keep Lonzo and this year we will see him ready to hit open shots.
This year Lonzo will score when he is open.
This year it will be a major accomplishment for him to play in more than 52 games.
It will be a major accomplishment for Lonzo to play more than 2000 minutes this upcoming season on a team everyone is betting will at least make the playoffs.
Lonzo is going to be fine.

That's just pinhole surgery to smooth out the meniscus.
I just don't know why it wasn't done immediately

Dunno. Maybe because trade talks having been ongoing? Doesn’t make sense.

They had to shoot him benching 250 lbs first before the procedure.stan francisco wrote:Dr Aki wrote:stan francisco wrote:Arthroscopic surgery...

Re: Official Lonzo Ball Rookie Thread No. 1
Yeah this is just reaching border-line ridiculous levels. Lonzo's season has been over for 3+ months. You could have decided to get knee-surgery, I dont know, maybe back in April or May? He'd pretty much be recovered by now if they were somewhat competent with their decision-making (or just not be an ****). I doubt he's been working on fixing his shot at all, since there's been no reports of him working with a shooting-coach.
Now he's going to lose another 2+ months, where he could have been working on fixing that horrific shooting form. Seriously, it does not seem like he has any desire to fix anything about his game. If he did, he would have come to the decision of going-through with this procedure months ago. Now with the impending Kawhi trade, he pretty much throws this ultimatum that he's been saving in his back-pocket. Really, saving himself from being traded and working on his jumpshot.
It would not surprise me if there is a "set-back" which will cause him to miss training-camp. Then the Ball-family will have an excuse like "he never had any time to fix his jumper." Go figure...

This is some high levels of pessimistic reaching.

He’s not Lakers fan from what i read from his posts in general board. Just masquerading as one.

I just don't think very highly of his work-ethic or character. His peers relative to his age (Kuzma, Ingram, Hart) are all busting their asses off in their own capacity, while he can't be bothered to fix the worst part of his game. If he comes in next season with the same jumper and continues to shoot poorly, how far-fetched would this really be?

Re: Official Lonzo Ball Rookie Thread No. 1
Pretty widely reported that the front office wanted him to prioritize developing his strength and overall physical durability, and by all accounts he’s doing that.
For all the complaining about his shot, I think the front office reportedly doesn’t even want him to tinker with it at this time.

Re: Official Lonzo Ball Rookie Thread No. 1
I am going to do everything I can to remain civil.
I have been paying attention to Laker basketball since I was in grade school and Magic was a rookie who beat the Sixers even when Kareem went down with an injury.
Here is my position regarding Lonzo:
I never believed that Lonzo was on the trading block.
I believe that Lavar leaked that Lonzo had a tear in his miniscus.
I believe there was talk from sportswriters that Lonzo was going to be traded.
I believe the Lakers are not talking to Lavar about anything.
I believe Lavar got scared and leaked the knee to keep other teams from wanting him even though the Lakers were never interested in giving up Lonzo.
I believe Lonzo was over-hyped by Lavar and his haters are always going to talk trash.
Lonzo is cheap on a rookie contract.
Lonzo is loyal.
Lonzo has potential and I do not trust anyone who thinks otherwise.
And I will say this now...
I believe Lonzo has been working on his shot all summer.
His knees need rest. So he is probably not running much. He can do the stationary bike to keep up his stamina. And he has been hitting the gym and lifting weights to bulk up.
And since his shot sucked so bad last year if all he did was shoot three pointers and free throw distance jumps shots all summer that will be good enough.
Before the all star break defenders will double team Lebron and Lonzo when playing will get open and will have open shots.
Do not be surprised if Lonzo starts getting hot. And do not be surprised if Lonzo starts hitting his jump shots consistently.

He's not a rookie anymore, I don't think we need a massive thread to track him, and this one's almost reached the size limit anyway...

Re: Official Lonzo Ball Rookie Thread No. 1
If someone started a new Lonzo thread, I am all for it.
Lonzo is going to be around for a long time.
Pelinka said in an interview that the Lakers are invested in youth.
Magic in an ESPN article specifically mentioned 4 young players. Kuz, BI, Hart and Lonzo.
Laker fans on this forum as well as others are going to be watching every minute Lonzo plays.
I do not believe there will be any big trades unless Magic, Jeannie, Pelinka, Walton and Lebron all sign off on it.
Lonzo may not be an all-star or All-NBA and he may not average over 20 nimutes a game next year but he will not have to lead this team. He plays great defense. He rebounds and with KCP and Rondo, Lonzo does not even have to play point guard. He can just come in and play defense. All he really has to do to improve his stock is improve his percentage of making open shots.,
