Pretty sure that's the only way Nets could sign him at this point.

Why your GM loves our Players so much? Crabbe Davis and now Napier haha. Brooklyn Trail Blazers

Good insurance option at point with Whitehead and Lin gone. Do we have any roster spots left after this?

I think 1 spot left, which they may be holding for Acy since they haven't renounced him yet. They could probably use 1 more offensively minded player in the front court - though ideally it would be someone with a little more upside than Acy.

Yeah that's true but Stauskas sucks bro. And btw hollis-jefferson also came from portland lolRich Rane wrote:LillardPortland wrote:Why your GM loves our Players so much? Crabbe Davis and now Napier haha. Brooklyn Trail BlazersBut think of it as a trading Davis and Napier for Stauskas.

Re: Nets Sign Shabazz Napier
Also, this seems like a really quality signing. Not that I expect him to get a ton of minutes, but his 3 pt% and TS% is better than any other ball handler on the roster. Also somehow had more DWS and steals per36 than any guard on the roster.
So a solid shooting, solid defending PG young enough that he's still improving? What's not to like?
The 2nd year is nice insurance in case they decide to not extend Dinwiddie.

Re: Nets Sign Shabazz Napier
Surely Napier could have gotten a backup PG role somewhere else? We already have D-Lo and Dinwiddie here, so I'd assume Napier is third string backup PG (and that's without even counting Levert who I had expected to play backup PG). Unless Dinwiddie is about to get traded...

It all started when they gave us Gerald Wallace...

You guys have great players and we play very similar to you guys. The problem with your team is your wings and forwards. I just think Marks believes we have a better system than you guys.

Re: Nets Sign Shabazz Napier
I think we made this signing as a way for our players to have competition. It's not bad. I just wished it was an expiring.

Just pure speculation on my part, but I thought the 2nd year could also be insurance in case they decide to trade Dinwiddie at the trade deadline this year. Dinwiddie is obviously due a pay increase next offseason that the Nets may not be willing to pay when they can pay Napier, who is a better 3 point shooter and a solid defender while just entering his prime (age 27 right now), the minimum. And this can be evaluated at the deadline at napier's 2nd year is a team option.
