Sac has Bogdon, Hield and Fox...they don't "need" Smart so I doubt they overspend for him like that. With or without Smart they are going to do much in the west...its a stupid add for that team.

Off topic but it’s hotter than **** here in Ogden Utah. We did our grocery run today and as usual stoped by the state liquor store to stock up on beer and wine. (Can’t get at a grocery store here). The beer is not refrigerated and I was a bit inpatient so put some ice cubes in my beer. I had always frowned upon such an idea but it is refreshing. Cheers.

Smart taking QO we have him for one year, can not trade him, he is gone in a year...better to give him 12 per year and have him as trade asset.

I browsed the Sac board...a couple posters there really want Smart...waiting this long in free agency to pay Marcus 10 mil a year isn't bargain hunting or anything screwed...that organization is so bizarre....I guess Marcus is a legit option there.

It’ll be hard trading Smart on a 12 mil a year deal.. unless it’s a Jabari Parker type deal.

Depends. A small deal of Smart for someone else useful, maybe.
But if it's a blockbuster for a high salary player and Smart is just functioning as filler, you're going to have a bunch of high value parts (players and picks) going in both directions, and you're not going to let the fact that your filler is a couple mil overpaid kill the deal.

The markets should normalize over the next year or 2. Marcus Smart at 11% of the cap or so will hardly be untradeable. Perceptions change quickly. Last summer, a signifcant portion of this board thought Marcus would command huge money, Avery Bradley's market value was 20 a year, etc, etc.

Re: Marcus Smart free agency Take 2. "He works hard for the money"
Well, Chicago signing Jabari Parker for $20 Million this season blows their cap space.
The Nets have no chance of making the playoffs, and apparently decided on Shabazz Napier on a 2 year deal is better bang for the buck than trying to get Marcus Smart inked to an offer sheet. That closes another door for Smart.
And with Atlanta adding Jeremy Lin to Dennis Schroeder and Trae Young, that door is also closed.
The only teams left with any cap space are Dallas and Sacramento.
And Sacramento is supposedly considering the idea of making an offer to Rodney Hood, now that Zach LaVine and Jabari Parker are off the table.
All these moves mean that Smart can't get more next year from anyone above the Celtics 6.05 Million qualifying offer, and I am a firm believer in not bidding against yourself.
If Smart doesn't take the QO, without a Sign & Trade, his next best option will be the Tax-Payer Mid-Level for $5.3 million, which the Celtics would instantly match. He's out of options.

Re: Marcus Smart free agency Take 2. "He works hard for the money"
Going after Hood is a smart idea by Sacramento. I don't think Cleveland will bother matching if a team really makes a crazy offer. For Sacramento, a place that likely won't have free agent allure, getting a scoring 2/3 is the need they are targeting. Could Hood get a $10MM+ offer? I was assuming Hood would be back on the qualifying offer or contract not much higher than that.

Re: Marcus Smart free agency Take 2. "He works hard for the money"
When Crowder got his deal, his annual salary was about 10% of the cap. If we wanted to trade Smart at 12 per in 2019-20, that would be 11% of the cap. That's moveable on its own (if need be) esp to a playoff team, and even more valuable as trade ballast for a major trade for a star (if one becomes available) since you'd give away less pieces.

Hood cost himself a lot of money this past season. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him land somewhere for the minimum.

Have to down a case of beer in Utah to get my buzz. Ridiculous.
So for watersports adventures, Wyoming works better for me!

Has Ainge taken Smart to Chipotle yet? I'm getting worried.

The Dallas cap space is piddling. It is down to Sacro, Boston for a QO or a larger deal, or a S&T.

It sounds nuts but I keep frozen grapes on hand. Green for white wine to keep it super cool and red for red wine, only if it's been sitting on the rack in a real hot house. Keeps it cool, doesn't altar the taste, doesn't water it down and it provides a delicious snack

Pay the man a decent 4-year deal already and let's win us some titles! Go C's!
And to Marcus, smarten up. You won't get the money you want elsewhere.

The second-longest event ever, the WSOP heads-up.
Longest event ever, the Smart free agency.
Marcus Smart's agent thinks he has two Aces, and all he has is a 7 and a 5.

They are suited though...and he has had one too many cocktails. Gonna go for the unlikely straight flush.

Wakeup call to Marcus. Stop doing and saying bonehead **** and work on your shot. Come back out next year and get paid. Right now theres no market for defensive specialists. He has more value here than he could bring anywhere else.
