Why interest in Jahil Okafor?

Post#1 » by gmc5032 » Wed Jul 18, 2018 12:43 am

Just read where the Pacers might have an interest in J. Okafor. Why would that be? We have enough bigs and our roster is full.

Supposedly he had a workout at the summer league but the Pacers didn't show up. I could see bringing him in only if Pritch moves a big, otherwise you're right in that we're well stocked.

I'm surprised more teams haven't thought they could salvage his career. A former lottery pick to be had on the cheap.

You are right that we have too many centers though.

Due diligence most likely. Most teams have a lot more stakes in the fire at all times just to see what might pan out. Maybe you convince a guy to come to camp with a non guaranteed spot and what’s the harm? Otherwise, we have a 15th spot available now, but maybe he’s an emergency signing mid season if someone goes down long term?

I would take a look at him too considering he's a former lottery pick that can be had on the cheap. Everyone knows he has one of the most refined post games in the league as a young player and can possibly develop into a very good to great offensive big. But his defense is bad enough that it kills his overall value considering he's a center; a position that cant be hidden on defense. I personally believe the right coach can teach him how to improve his positioning on defense. Maybe Dan Burke can turn him into a serviceable defensive player. I get there is four centers on the roster. But Ike hasn't been a player that can be used for most of the time the team has had him. They may be considering replacing him with Jah.

Signed a 2 year deal with New Orleans today at minimum salary. First year only partial guarantee and 2nd year a team option.
