Obviously Kawhi is miles ahead of Demar as a player, but at least Demar will play every game. I'm not so sure about Kawhi. If he pulls the same **** his trade stock will drop exponentially, but you best believe a team will still give him another big contract, definitely not the max though.

I have my concerns. I don't think you can convince him to stay. He wanted to be in LA the whole time. When he leaves, we basically gave up Demar, Yak who is a promising young big, and a 2019 pick for Danny Green.

Masai rents a guy for 1 year who might not even play this year while giving up valuable assets.

Big risk. Something I did not expect from Masai. Hope it works but I'm worried.

You have to take a risk if you want greatness in Toronto. This is a big risk, but the team wasn't good enough to truly compete for the next two years anyway. If there is any human being that can convince Kawhi to stay on a team that isn't the lakers, I believe it is Masai.

It’s only anything less than an A+ if Kawhi never plays a minute here.

Some of you here sayin East is ours, lmao gtfo we're gonna be chasing 9th after a year lmao! So many other teams will be better than us

From Masai's standpoint the current core had a 3 year window (now 2 years) I am sure getting something for DeRozan now even if its Kawai as a one year rental is the best haul he will ever get for Demar.. then risk losing him for nothing or spare parts.

The Kawhi actually playing for us is still up in the air but, on paper, it's a fair and reasonable exchange where for the first time, we get the best player (on paper).

I'm sad that we're losing Demar and that the 2 best friendships on the team have been broken up - Demar/Lowry and Yak/Skillz. The interactions between Kawhi and OG promise to be extremely underwhelming.

If Kawhi plays like he did, he might win MVP this year. There's a lot of things Kawhi can do here that he couldn't do with the Spurs/Western conference.

He can easily go to the Finals, win MVPs, be the true franchise player he wants to be and doesn't have the ego of Pop in his face.

that pick will be used next year. Raptors probably won't finish out of the top 10 teams next year.

A if he plays for us this year. B- if he doesnt (we still get an early rebuild option so its not a C,D, F grade).

I gave it an A and not an A+ because I loved Demar (less than Lowry though) and it will be tough to see such an awesome player go.

At least he gets to go to Popovich, one of the best landing spots for him.

Oooh, better poll result than expected. Yesterday only 60% wanted DD traded.

I guess people are happy that we gave up less than expected.

Danny Green will play better D, shoot the three much better, and some of DD's minutes will go to Powell as well. We will be much better on D. I see this as an addition by subtraction move. With more shots going to our more efficient players, we might not even suffer much on D.

I wonder how much say the new coach had in this move.

Yeah yeah, DD had great 'character' and everyone loved him as a person. Whatever. He couldn't get it done on court when it mattered so I'm perfectly fine with the move. I'd be absolutely amazed if Masai can get Leonard to resign, but if he can't, we kept our talented kids and can get on with the rebuild much earlier.

Now if we could just find someone to take Ibaka into cap space and trade Lowry for a pick next summer (if Leonard doesn't want a super max deal from us).

Amazing. Didn't think it'd be possible to pull this off without including Siakam or OG. And the first is top 20 protected otherwise converts to 2 2nd rounders so doesn't really affect the rebuild at all.

This is better than what I thought was the best case scenario for a trade like this.

Well done Masai.

overall, on paper, this is a better team.

They definitely got better defensively though. we got two defensive players + kept our best defenders.

If we kawhi is healthy and we resign him next summer I give it an A++. If he's injured for most of the year (very much a possibility) and leaves the city the day we get eliminated, then it's an E-.
I'll give it a B- for now.

Masai will wait to talk to Leonard, see if he is going to play and be at 100%. If he plays hard in this contract year, then I'd agree. But if he tells Masai he is still injured and won't even play, then trading Lowry for picks is an option, and that could possibly make us one of the ten worst teams in the league next season. We'd basically get the Poeltl pick back, get out of DD's contract, get something for Lowry and lose a couple of second round picks. It wouldn't be a horrible way to restart the rebuild.

A+, if he re-signs.

A, if he plays out the year, Uncle Dennis and his clown show is quiet and we make noise to the NBA finals

C, if he fakes another injury and/or sand-bags it throughout the year to try and force Masai's hand.

I put A for now because on paper we are the better team, chance that Kawhi is still injured/ doesn't report, i was expecting a rebuild anyways down the road, so this jump starts it.

I would say A+ if Kawhi plays. this team is has so much potential + realized potential on the defensive end, its going to be fun. Kawhi probably wins MVP this year if he plays though.

I would have rated the trade A+ but decided to stop at A. Just didn't like the fallout where DeMar felt betrayed. Masai probably should not have told him he wasn't going to get traded and then only for this to happen.

well he needs to pass his physical still. still a chance this trade gets rescinded (even if Kawhi wants to play out the year) LOL
