Re: Don't fall for the American Media propaganda
The media is just taking a ride on the emotions. Even if LeBron came here they would find a reason to talk crap about the raps

This is the only time I agree with the American media.

Re: Don't talk to us about Loyalty
Also let's not be stupid and act like all organizations and players run by the same code. For a team like the Raptors, loyalty has been a hot button issue for it's brand. The perception is still that players don't want to be here. Kawhi made it clear through his people that he doesn't want to be here. So, loyalty has value for a team like ours that isn't a destination. We won like 59 games last year and not one good player was thinking "hey, how to do get on Toronto?" It's not that we owed DeMar for being a straightforward all-star, but we certainly profited off that as a brand. Now that's out the window.

Re: Don't fall for the American Media propaganda
I've never seen the American media act this savage before.... I feel like we went back into a Hot Tub Time Machine
where we're a lottery team that's sucked forever players have left and we haven't had the All-Star game and we haven't
established ourselves as a top city.

Re: Don't fall for the American Media propaganda
The problem with the american media is that they cover and focus on the Raptors on a macro scale, and completely ignore the factors on a micro level that have led to the justified firing of Dwane Casey; and now the justified trade of their franchise player in Demar Derozan.

Zero chance.
Remind me when was the last time we signed a star here during free agency?

This was us building some sort of reputation or continuely for keeping stars happy and having a smart front office.
Now we have nothing.

Re: Don't talk to us about Loyalty
It's just American media frenzy.
It's a story. Of course they are going to play it up. Drama sells.
Fox/FS1 is already making up trash ***t saying Kawhi has to pay more taxes than any other team. All a bunch of hoser bs.
At the end of the day Masai's job is to make the team better, nothing else matters. This is a 100% trade no brainer despite all the risks.
DD for Kawhi. You do that 10 out of 10 times in essentiall every situation.

That's great and all but where did that lead us? We had to continually overpay for mediocre players just to sign here for free agency. DD is one of the most loved players in the league and the Raptors were a respected organization that were winning games and yet we couldn't even attract any real stars to play here.
If healthy, Kawhi is top 3 player in the league. You take a risk on him and if it doesn't work out, you rebuild. We were not going anywhere with this current core, certainly not getting past the Celtics. We aren't ever going to get someone of Kawhi's caliber in free agency.

Masai has seen enough when he saw derozan's footage during drew league and pulled the trigger.

Re: Don't fall for the American Media propaganda
Before the playoffs I was listening to NBA radio and the pundit was asked about Toronto. He shouted "Fugazi!" over and over. He said the Raptors had no chance and only wanted to discuss the 76rs and Boston. And he was RIGHT! Lets not kid ourselves, we had to do something!

The only bit that sucks is that DeMar was the first All-Star to ever truly commit 100%. Chose us over the Lakers to boot.
Lowry has only stayed due to $$. Every other star has left
On a positive - I am looking forward to watching DeMar continue to grow in SA. I think he will be happy there and Pop will know how to take his game to the next level.
I don't remember Lakers giving him an offer. Besides, Magic is a great player with great Ball IQ, I doubt he wanted one dimensional like derozan being a core member of his team.
Luckily for derozan he may have found his Chuck in Pop. He literally just need to follow directions to a T to flourish.

Demar was a great player for us, a franchise legend to be sure, but taking into account his style of play, you could make the argument that we were better off without him... while he was ON the team. We saw that play out quite a bit over the years.
I still remember when Baddrick Badderson, coming off of a brutal postseason for us (3.4 PPG and around 30% shooting), was finally ranked as a top 100 player by Washington Post when he left the Raptors last year.

"They got embarassed by the Cavs...again."
"Demar was a no-show. He didn't even play the fourth quarter."
"Casey needs to play his stars. What is he doing?"
/two months later
"Why would Masai trade the reigning COTY? Dwane doesn't deserve this"
"Demar was loyal and is a proven scorer. Why make this trade?"
i.e. - the American media doesn't, and has never, known anything about what happens with the Toronto Raptors. All these talking heads, maybe literally, haven't watched a full Raptors game in their entire lives. This represents everything wrong with all US media these days - they're absolutely insane and it's all for entertainment and $$$. What a mess of a country.

Re: Don't talk to us about Loyalty
The guy had Google sponsorship, was on video game covers, took over Kobe's shoe line, marketed as a star and was quite possible one of the worst playoff players in the league for the entire run. This type of off court success relative to poor play doesn't happen in other markets. DD benefited so, so much by playing here and be marketed way above his talent level, same with Lowry.
What was possibly left after another sweep with him playing horribly? How much longer can one expect to benefit like this?

"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Re: Don't fall for the American Media propaganda
American media also said Poeltl has a reliable 3 pt shot.
American media also can barely pronounce Poeltl.
That doesn't stop them from giving their opinions on him.
Demar was a laughingstock for the most part on the podcasts I listen to when it came to playoff time. They all laughed at our backcourt when it came to talking about the playoffs. I get it, Demar is a first-class guy and loved Toronto. I didn't want to see him go either. But to turn around and say that we should keep someone just because they like us and are one of the few people to like us? That just feeds into the Torontonian stigma of needing attention and validation.

All I know is Nemanja Bjelica caught wind of this deal and backed out of the deal with 76ers. He scared.

ok dude
lets just relocate the franchise instead of trying to build a reputation as a place people get treated well and people want to be.
