UPDATE:

@wojespn

Oklahoma City has agreed to trade Carmelo Anthony and a protected 2022 first-round pick to Atlanta for point guard Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala, league sources tell ESPN. Anthony will be waived, and he will join team of his choice. Rockets are frontrunner. HMFFL

I took that to mean we're trying to add an asset from OKC to compensate for the fact that we're accepting the responsibility of buying out sMelo. At least I hope that's what it means.

And before I go full ...

.. here. I kinda hate B*tch Lawrence. He's the same dude that said BKN was gonna trade Lin/buyout sMelo so I'm wondering if this is just him trying to save face by projecting his fake deal onto us.

I'm staying tuned.

Dennis and Russy together is literally gonna be that Carlton stealing the ball from Will scene everyday in practice.

Remember a year ago we were talking about if we'd trade Dennis for a top 10 pick? Yea, times change.

I'm so confused.

I thought OKC needed to dump salary to avoid a luxury tax bill.

I don't trust Schlenk and trades. His choices with high picks leaves me in question as well, though time will be the judge of that.

It never made sense for OKC to stretch Melo and mortgage their immediate future.

And if they tried to buy him out, that would only provide them at best with about $9 mill in capspace relief (this equals a little less than a third of Melo's salary, which is typical amount left on table by player in buyouts).

This deal only gives OKC about 7.5 mill in capspace relief. But it gives them two players with potential to substantially contribute. Muscala to fill in the Melo vacancy at PF, and Schroder who has much more potential than Felton, no matter the rough year Schroder had last year. OKC is probably confident their culture can straighten DS out.

For OKC, who is in win now mode after PG signing, this shows PG he made the right move. and they are committed to winning. Their roster is better, and they get rid of headache of Melo.

For Hawks, the deal could be great if OKC provides substantial pick compensation. Presti's going to be tough to negotiate against though.

It's not capspace relief they get. It's reducing their ridiculous tax bill.

^ That's right.

Earlier this summer I wondered if this off season might be a bit of sleeper because so few teams had cap space. That did not turn out to be the case!

Said it after the Lin trade that it wouldn't make sens to not make the deal with DEN and get the 1st rnd pick, unless it was to make the trade with OKC instead of BKN.

Getting Lin gives a good PG, and OKC had the worst backup PG, so they would be all for getting Lin or Schröder

It makes zero sense to keep DS at this point and I don't expect to acquire much value for him.
Take on Melo and give me a couple of draft picks is probably the best to expect. Possibly too much to expect and one draft pick is all that we would get by way of the second round.
