He's one of the best GMs in the league and has been since we got him. Every GM is going to have some blemishes, Carroll flourished on BKN, if Casey had a proper offensive system and Carroll was healthy it's possible he could've at least been a very solid contributor for us (he had career stats this past season). Some of the deals he's handed out haven't been great (Powell for example), but then he finds gems like FVV and Siakam and all is forgivable.
He's had quite a few heists trade wise, yes we gave up DeMar but any time you can give up an allstar for a Western conference superstar you do it hands down, and on top of it he got an expiring deal in one of the best 3+D wings in the entire league. We've now become a team that can actually compete for a championship, which is amazing. No matter how well our previous core did, it's a horrible feeling that once you reach the playoffs you're not even confident you can beat lesser teams, no #1 seed should have to feel that way if they're a true #1 seed.

July 18, 2018:
Toronto Trades: DeMar DeRozan, Poeltl, top 20 protected 1st round pick (if not in top 20 within 1 year, it becomes 2 second round picks)
Toronto Receives: Kawhi Leonard (expiring), Danny Green (expiring)
These deals are just amazing. He regularly receives solid players/expiring contracts/prospects/picks back for guys who aren't even in the league anymore. I mean he traded John Salmons for one of the best 6th men in the history of the NBA in Lou Williams and still managed to also get a prospect in Bebe.
Yes he's sat tight the past few years because we kept winning during the regular season, but this was just another fantastic deal to put on his resume.
I've never really had an issue with him outside of taking a little too long these past few years to pull the trigger, but hey, at least he's showing us he's willing to go all out and listen to our demands as fans, and he shows he has a commitment to winning a championship, that's as much as you can ask your GM for outside of complete competency (because god knows our previous GMs were some of the most incompetent people ever).
