the days of relying on 5-6 Mil Midlevel guys are OVER. Hes making 6-7th man money right now...and hes a 6th -7th man. Hes also one of the only players we have that can do what he does.

Its clear now that Stevens and Ainge belive that his skill set is invaluable to the roster.

A tad of an over pay is way better than losing him outright for nothing.

You mean the one Reload completely smashed apart as 100% untrue? Got it. Moving on.

I think reload is great and he is near perfect when he reports news. This is nothing against him at all it is just I have been hearing this all over the place that Irving wants NY. No one knows what Irving is thinking.

I'm sure he likes NY. He's a young rich guy. But he also knows that the Knicks and Nets are both trash.

What superstar will be available? Dont even say AD he aint coming to Boston.

Teams trading their superstar would like expiring contracts, not someone owed 3/40 and is a one way player that doesnt think Any shot is a bad shot?

Don't worry. If we are trying trading for AD, Smart won't be the one holding us back. It will be whether we want to send both Tatum and Brown, on top of whatever else they are asking for.

Trading players in the last year of their deal never works out that way. They don’t get huge returns like Tatum and Brown.

They're not gonna develop Rozier anymore??

Of course they are. It's not like the world stops because Smart signs a contract. In fact, it keeps us moving forward.

So were the cavs before Lebron yet he still said that they (the cavs) don't need him. Plus if you have Butler going there you have something.

But I generally agree with this. Both NY teams are not run well and have not been for years.

Guy wouldn’t start for the majority of teams in the league, won’t start for this team unless multiple players get injured, but we can’t call him a bench player

Call him a bench player if that makes you happy. Who cares? Isn't it great that we have a starting caliber guy coming off the bench? Sure, he may not start over Harden and CP3, but he'll definitely start over guys in NY. And NY fans actually want Smart. They think of him as the perfect, hard-nosed defensive-minded player. So he's not trash to everyone. Just to you.

Besides, Celtics have a history of stud bench players... like McHale and Hondo

Did you really just bring up McHale & Havlicek?

If Smart is not neutral value on this contract, he's no more than a couple million per off of it.

In any trade we'd try for a top-tier player, there will be players and picks going in both directions of sufficient value to completely wash away that small amount by which Smart is off from neutral. It'll be completely irrelevant.

No team is going to turn down the likes of Tatum and/or Brown and/or a high SAC pick (assuming those are the things they want of course) just because they think the filler is 2mil / year overpaid.

I just woke up from a nap though.. :(

I'm a crazy Celtic fanatic..I love those type of people. My issue is with the 'Durr he can't shoot I would never give him more than 5 million a year because I know more than Ainge and Stevens and everybody else working for the Boston Celtics for 15 years' type of ****..I understand if this was Sacramento or Orlando but what move has Ainge made before that makes people really think they can question him like this?

There are 3 types of posters. The one who cheers on everything their team does... the one who has negative comments about everything their team does.. and the one who enjoys playing keyboard GM on a forum and gives their personal opinion on each move, whether they liked it or not.

Just because you didn’t like the Kawhi trade doesn’t mean you think you know more than Pop or RC. Just because you disliked Brads lineup to end the game doesn’t mean you think you know more about baskeball sets than he does. You’re allowed to question people smarter than you. Otherwise this forum would just be.. well.. it would be like watching Nick Wright talk about Lebron.

Or maybe I need a nap and I’m off base here. Idk. I did just eat chipotle for lunch and that always makes me sleepy.

Danny's sinister influence continues.

So many guys on here casually dropping Chipotle refs. That place is disgusting, lol, idk how y'all do it. We have Froob eating peanut butter tacos though so it's all moot in a sense.

LOL Phew!! What a relief!! I was afraid now that Marcus was signed that the team would refuse to work with Terry anymore.

I did. I'm sure at some point, some people probably said they are coming off the bench because they are not good enough to start.

When was the last time you saw a guy at the level of AD at his age getting traded? Never. So it's not going to happen. But if it did, it will take a king's ransom. Don't even tell me about Kawhi or PG because neither is close to AD's level. If we ever were trading for AD, we have to at least include Tatum or Brown. Most likely both. Unless they have become superstars by then themselves.

They were stars by the end of their careers, but not when they were rookies and coming off the bench. And you know McHale was like 23 as a rookie. Same age as Marcus Smart last year.

Yeah well, Smart isn't a rookie, we've got four years of evidence of showing what he is in NBA competition. And I would bet every dollar I'll make for the rest of my life that he won't ever be half as good as McHale or Hondo. Bringing them up is pointless and laughable

Hard for me to believe it's actually an exact 4/52, if those are the kinds of tiny margins we're talking about. You really can't tweak it by 30k to give yourself much greater flexibility?

4/51.86 is all it would have taken.

Edit: Whoops, off by an order of magnitude. 300k, not 30k. Still hard to understand how they couldn't have settled at 4/50.5

I gotta imagine this is rounding in reporting, right? Not everyone, esp in the media, is quite as picky about these things. Even the tweet says "around $11.6M". So, I'm sure we have that wiggle room. Zarren is definitely one of the picky ones.
