I'll promise never to mention his bad contract or him again (you guys that love the apparently flawless marcus smart will be happy about that).

Literally all the Smart fans openly admit his faults, he is a crap shooter and turns it over too much. Doesn't stop him from being a huge net positive player, and last year he shot a by far career high from 16-23 feet, and right at the rim. I wouldn't be shocked to see him shoot 35% from 3 this year on something like 7 shots a game or so.

As far as flopping, he finally cut down on it quite a bit last year because refs just stopped calling stuff with him. His team defense is amongst the best ive ever seen, on a team that is defense first that is invaluable.

For the money he got I expect 35% from 3 all 4 years and 2 all defense teams. And no wall punching.(unless it's John wall)

Yeah he cant act like an idiot off the court, that is unacceptable. Im hoping what's going on with his mom has straightened out his priorities.

I’ve been as harsh a Smart critic as any. Although I do believe we overpayed him because you can get what he will bring - a defense first guy who can’t shoot - with late first round and early second round pick, he does have elite physical qualities and he brings a toughness that we haven’t seen in Boston since KG traded away. As a fan, this signing keeps the gang together for another year so I am psyched. Also happy for Marcus who gives his all and puts himself on the line when he tries to make winning plays. Also as a fan, I couldn’t care less about luxury tax.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Money is just money guys, and it isn’t even ours.

It’s up to the front office to keep the team together and the books in order, I haven’t seen any evidence of them stuffing either of those areas up as of yet.

What they’ve done here is keep a major part of what the GM, Coach, and ALL the players consider the heart of the team, and the tone-setter, around for our next title window.

Continue complaining as required but I’m good with this.

It ain't that. I'm not worried for him, I'm worried about him. From a fan's perspective, the ownership is a means to an end every bit as much as the players. If a player has an injury, or an attitude problem, that's an issue. If the ownership blinks at a huge tax bill, that's an issue. It's all the same thing.

I am cognizant of the tax because I am playing RealGM on the internet, and want to make sure our books are managed in such a way that our ownership is least likely to get cold feet when the bills start getting big. I could really care less about Wyc personally.

No, I get it. I love figuring all this stuff out too. But it is kind of funny how much we concern ourselves with how the billionaires should be paying the millionaires. We're basketball fans and part time financial planners for the rich and famous...if only they'd listen!

Smart is all good. There's an understanding that last seasons antics aren't going to be tolerated in the future, this deal is a representation of that. In retrospect, it's just another one of the things that comes along with a young person with his type of mentality. He knows he will need to be cognizant of his behaviors in order to be successful.
I don't believe in statistics. There are too many factors that can't be measured. You can't measure a ballplayer's heart. -Red Auerbach

Marcus Smart is an underrated shooter

feel like it's an overpay until i realized that the freakin MLE is over 8 mil. ****. marcus is probably worth 1.5 of an mle. not a huge marcus fan but he is a major glue guy and our enforcer. especially since morris is likely gone. or at least i hope he is. he doesn't have lebron to guard anymore in the ECF.

This works in a vacuum but I don't see Morris being happy being the 4th wing on the depth chart (which doesn't even include developing Semi). I think he actually said earlier in the off-season that he was concerned about this. I don't see him being someone like Baynes who is happy playing 30 min one night, 5 min another and taking 2 shots total. If he is fine with it though, then that would be great.

we only have him for a year, his feelings don't bother us much. he will do everything in his power to play well in the minutes he is given because he wants to get paid. if he gripes behind the scene, that's okay too because we can tell him, it is what it is, or move him at that time. I wouldn't move him just because. we aren't paying taxes until after the season, we can move him mid-season if it becomes an issue.

I just don't see him going out of his way to put himself in a bad light in a contract year. oh, he may be unhappy, but he will put on a happy face for other teams.

Glad to have Smart back.

If I was Yabs or Morris, I wouldn't be signing any long term leases or buying any homes in the Boston area.

LET'S GOOOOO! So freaking happy that Danny, Wyc, and the ownership are willing to put their money where the mouth is and keep this crew together. This team is too damn fun and love-able to break up. Smart is absolutely essential for a potential matchup with GS. He's gonna be so key to our championship run(s) just ya'll wait and see!

Disagree. A player like Smart is not readily available in late first and early 2nd rd.

All shooting aside, one of most unique players I've seen and we got him for the right price I believe.

What is it with us and unique PGs?

Rondo was an anomaly. Smart is a pattern.

But seriously, at what point do the IT fanboy/Smarthater guys need to sign a liability waiver just to post here again?

They initiated for years and got decked on 100% of 100% of the things they said.

True story!

It's kind of hilarious that IT is playing at vet min while Smart has a 4 year $52mil contract.....
