I just don’t understand.

Like someone said earlier, Dudley’s contract could be used at the trade deadline for salary matching purposes.

They want a player today or soon so they needed the roster spot

They still might have Chandlers to move at the deadline

I understand that. I would just rather keep my options open.

I think expiring deals would bring a lot of value at the trade deadline.

What if Portland struggle and Lillard becomes available. I just liked having 20 mil in Dudley and Chandler ready to go.

But that’s such a big if, and you are going to have to dress up those expiring deals with picks and actual good players to get anything like lillard or love or ???

I think the clear strategy is saving cap space for next yr. McDoOver likely has an ok from Sarver to ride this yr out and see what we have with Ayton, Bridges, Jackson and the rest, as well as Igor.

Absolutely it’s a big if. But I don’t see the advantage of signing Williams or Harrell unless it’s on a 1 yr deal. Keep the books clean.

I think this move is about keeping cap flexibility for next summer but it also could be about adding a player better than Jared Dudley for this season. Yesterday - the Suns could not trade say Troy Daniels for Milos Teodosic -- today I think
they can

(not saying that will happen - just saying that is the type of deal that can happen with an extra 2.1m of cap space.)

You're right, GS gave up WAY more....two unprotected firsts to clear space by sending out expiring deals. I guess it depends on how much you value unprotected firsts.

This isn’t about ‘cheap’. Sarver gave Duds $20million .... that comes out to just under $10g per minute.

This is about cutting dead weight and giving a ‘youngry’ the opportunity to make it. Dudley had no value.

I would be okay with moving on from Tyson and Daniels to make sure both Alan Williams and Montrez Harrel are signed

Montrez Harrell would be a dream. Ideal backup C/PF that Ayton can actually learn from as well.

Two unprotected picks that helps lead to three titles in four years and my guess, at worst, 4 in 6 - unless there is massive roster turnover next summer. I think the Suns are a year or two early from being able to use picks that way but when they got Iguodala - the roster was Curry, Klay, Green, Barnes, David Lee and Andrew Bogut. Maybe even Steve Blake. And they had just come of a playoff run that I believe made it to the Conf Semis. The next year they went to 7 with the Clippers in a 4/5 and after that - finals finals finals finals.

Yeah that seems likely. I wonder if he'd come back on a non guaranteed deal. That way you could bring in a couple guys to compete for the last roster spot.

Yeah, it proved worthy obviously, but they may have gotten there anyway and it still was a pretty costly trade at the time. How many players have we drafted after 35 that have amounted to anything? Dragic? I'd rather not trade the picks either, but we will see what the next moves are. Alan Williams was probably better than most of the 2nd round picks taken after 35 if they felt they couldn't sign him into space and wanted to save the room exception.

I like Harrell. Problem is even if the suns offered him the full 4mil room exception I assume the clips would gladdly match that offer sheet.
