Yes I would have traded Drummond/Bullock(or Johnson)/FRP(same protections) for Leonard and Green

Doesn't matter. Toronto's offer was better.

no one is trading for a top player at the deadline they know won't resign or trading for a top player when he can just sign there six months later.

cap space sounds cute until you realize You're just going to overpay for a lower tier free agent cause top tier free agents aren't signing with bad or lost organizations.

Both LA teams are going hard after Kawhi next summer. You can start a bidding war at the deadline if you have a competent and creative enough GM.
As for cap space sounding cute... it’s not just about signing players in free agency - cap space gives you flexibility in trades.

Keep reading Keith Langlois articles and get pumped up for some mediocrity.

What could they possibly get back at the deadline now that’s even going to be more valuable then DeRozan, Poetl and a 1st? If they couldn’t get LAs young players andvpicks before they won’t get it a few months before FA.

That’s up to a competent and creative GM to figure out. Deadline deals are more urgent than offseason deals.
The point is if there was a Drummond for Kawhi deal on the table you take it without thinking. However, I highly highly doubt there was, nor ever will be, a Drummond for Kawhi type of deal on any table because Drummond simply does not have that type of value around the league. This organization and fan base overhype his value because he’s the best player we’ve had in over a decade.

Kawhi doesn’t have the value you think he does given the situation. Raptors only got him cause the teams with young studs aren’t giving them up for a rental regardless how good he is. That’s not just gonna change at the deadline especially if teams know he still intends to head to LA.

Put it this way if a top East team like the Raps are even shopping a player of his caliber at the deadline it means they have zero faith if him staying that close too FA. So he’s not even a 1 year rental at that point but a couple month rental. So your not ever getting back even what you lost.

a bidding war? dude can go to whichever team he wants. what part of that aren't you understanding?

Lakers aren't moving pieces to have him just so the clippers won't. if anything a typical clippers type of move is to trade your pieces for kawhi and he switches to LAL. I agree with the cap flexibility for trades though but ultimately if you draft well these things wont be a heightened issue
