Hernan throwing smoke
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'd almost rather trot him out there over Barnes going forward.

It was an ovation saying "you're our best pitcher, we're in the middle of a 7 game losing streak, and we **** need you to pitch well". He gets more than a "mild applause" every time he makes an appearance, so doing just that might have hurt his confidence. Again, save the social just warrior-ing for off the field. Hate him and call him a douchebag, but anything short of rallying around the guy while he's on the mound is **** (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

You can't possibly believe that. OF COURSE it was "he's our guy, so we're supporting him". It's **** gross.

On the ovation it's a poor look. Obviously I don't know the mindset of 40k people but my guess is it's a akward situation and a couple people start cheering and it turns herd mentality. Again the optics aren't great especially with some recent and long standing Milwaukee issues but I highly doubt the intention is what it can be interpreted as.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

So it was “awesome job being racist and a homophobe a long time ago, we love that about you even if you aren’t now!!!” Is that what you are insinuating? Or am I completely misunderstanding what you and Human are referring to?

You want to judge someone you don't know at all for something they said 7 years ago? That's just purely ignorant. People change. I'm not saying what he said years ago, is ok.... but to continue to act like you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's still that guy is honestly disappointing. Be a better human being than that...
It's funny how defensive some of you are getting. None of the recent posts on the topic have described Hader as necessarily being the same guy he was 7 years ago. And yet, you bring up that straw man because otherwise it would be painfully obvious how stupid it is to give a standing ovation to someone apologizing for bigotry. You don't deserve special attention for crossing such a low bar. That's just called being a decent human being. It is you who needs to be better than that.Aaron It Out wrote:This will be my last post about it, but some of you just aren't getting it. It wasn't an ovation to say "we support your actions". Oh, **** off with this bull. You can't speak on behalf of the intentions of 40,000 people. And, even in trying to, you're old enough to recognize the difference between intent and impact.
You ask to keep the "social justice warrioring" off the field, but by standing and giving him an ovation, all you're doing - intentionally or otherwise - is sending a political message. A message that many here and nationally are tethering to this story. If you would have received him like any other pitcher, no one would have batted an eye..
So he can’t speculate on 40,000people intent but you can? I don’t get it?

MD has asked us to drop this, so I'll do so by simply saying the following - I'm primarily speaking to the impact of the ovation, not necessarily the intent. There may be some people who stood up for apolitical reasons, but the reaction I've read here and elsewhere leads me to believe that isn't the case for everyone. Chris Thompson offered a perspective on this at Deadspin that generally does a good job of reflecting my position on it.
If people want to to discuss this further, feel free to PM me.
Thanks.

Yeah, I won’t pretend to know what everyone was thinking, may have been we just came back a tied the game after a Yelich HR against one of the best pitchers in BB and our young relief pitcher is making his first appearance after his first ASG and dealing with “adversity” (to keep it simple)...I don’t know, but I think if someone thinks that the crowd did that because they were from hyper conservative Waukesha and somehow liked him more because of stuff he said a long time ago, it says just as much about the person with THAT perspective, I will leave it at that.
This team needs to get back on track. I think I am all for pulling up any and all of the young guys, as long as it doesn’t too negatively impact that super 2 status. As far as pitching, as soon as we get to September call ups, I think I am good with just going with a near all relief pitching style from start of the game.
