Read on Twitter
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Would of took that if I was him. He might get another big offer but that’s a guaranteed 4 year deal for him

That's a bit surprising.

Posting the maxes he's eligible for is silliness, as even he has to know he's not a max player. Still, next summer, the purse strings will be a bit looser, supposedly... but will he really get more than 4/80? I don't think it's clear enough to turn down that kind of paper, so it may be a matter of getting out of LAC.

We don't know that yet.

Still, given the amount of cap space available out there next offseason it's not as crazy a decision as one might think.

Okay, so the Clippers got rid of Blake Griffin's contract just to turn around and offer Tobias Harris, a non-star 4/80? They're lucky Tobias' confidence is through the roof because they were just saved from themselves.

Maybe Tobias will be proven right to bet on himself, but for some reason I'm doubting it.

I love Tobias but I'm glad we aren't stuck paying him that type of contract.

The Clippers still come out ahead with that draft pick, even if possibly only one year of Harris. That they saddled themselves with Bradley for two years/25 million amazes me. Hope Tobias stays healthy!

Harris is too low key to get max money interest from any suitors next off-season. Teams pay money IN PART because you help put asses in seats.

Maybe he just wants to choose for the first time in his career where he wants to play. Maybe he wants a NTC included because he saw Blake sign the big deal with with LAC and then got traded. Probably figures he'd be included in any S&T for a big superstar if he signed this contract and would have no say where he ended up and locked in for four more years there.

Sign this extension with the LAC and then get traded to Minnesota in a Butler S&T next off-season, or to Milwaukee in a Middleton S&T or rebuilding Charlotte for Kemba etc.

He made his money - he's played through his second contract that saw him paid $80M, he's set for life as are his kids and grand kids. He's taken care of his family. He probably has a great insurance plan as well. He seems like a guy who wants to win, but very likely also wants to set down community roots. He's played in a lot of cities in his career- Milwaukee, Orlando, Detroit, LA now - he's great in the communities where he plays, but then is traded away after a couple of years sorta deal.

Take the money.

There's more to lose than to gain, just ask IT or Boogie.

Yeah, that's definitely a fair offer. Unless he just doesn't want to stay in LA it seems like he should take it.

So he can be traded for a superstar during the season or almost certainly in the off-season? West ain't building around Tobias Harris in LA.

It is a fair offer. Meaning a very similar one will be there in the off-season for him. Why sign somewhere to be a trade asset and get shipped to a team where you might not want to play?

Demarcus Cousins, IT, KCP, Nerlen Noel, etc. Offers you hope for are not always there. I understand wanting to control your own destiny, but turning down a totally fair contract is a huge risk.

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. It's his first real chance at a big contract and passing on it is a real risk. IT is still looking for a gig post injury. Cousins signed a small make-good contract. Any player could get hurt.

The other risk is that he signs a 1 year deal and then gets shipped out anyway. He could end up somewhere that doesn't feature him and his stats all fall off. He's coming off carrier highs in scoring and shooting, but a down year statistically could certainly hurt his value.

And the unfortunate part about this for Tobias is that he's always going to be at risk of being traded no matter where he signs. He is the quintessential guy that is really solid but he's not really a #1 or #2 option and he doesn't play much defense. It's not that difficult to give him up in a trade.

He's earned $75M in the NBA. He'll be alright. He can get a huge insurance policy this year if he so desires. Nerlens and KCP never got their second contracts and thus never really got PAID (relatively speaking of course) - they should have taken the money.

On an aside, I bet NTC's will be an issue in the next CBA - they're very restricted now - 8 yrs in the league, four with current team and can't be added in an extension.

still would rather have him come off the books plus the #12 pick than to have Blake at 35 mil a year for the next 4.
