From a pure entertainment standpoint I think the league has potential. I watched a little over a half this past weekend and got Nancy Lieberman coaching up 40 year olds. Corey Maggette missing five consecutive wide open layups (I think he was 0-12 or something at one point). And Quentin Richardson almost ripping off Rashad McCants face. Never thought there would be value in bad basketball.

But you also have OG Curry Mahmoud Rauf dropping 20 and making a game-winner. That man is a bad man. Also never got to watch him so it's interesting to see his playstyle. Same with few of these players.

Makes sense to me, lock him up then give him the Blake Griffin treatment. They still have plenty of cap in a couple of summers and no one was giving them anything for a rental of Love anyway.

Yeah doc some are saying the same thing. He may be dealt in exchange for a couple of nice prospects, ala LAC-Det trade.

I remember some people in here wanting to sign Hassan Whiteside when he was a free agent a few years back.

That’s how desperate some were for us to sign a free agent. Needless to say we dodged a huge bullet there!

You say that like we should dodged the bullets that were Deng and Mozgov.

Big difference is nobody wa happy about the Mozgov or Deng signings and some were legit upset we didn’t get Whiteside. He was never going to be worth max money and that’s exactly what he got from the Heat.

Never mind Whiteside, what about Greg Monroe who the FO was chasing the same year as Melo?

Greg **** Monroe!

Proof that Mitch and Jim just didn’t have what I took to get the job done. I hate piling on Mitch but let’s face it. His last few years as Lakers’ GM were pretty disastrous!

And yet, we wouldn't be where we are today without Mitch... In a way, he set the table Magic's eating from.

Anyway...

5yrs/90M for Capella from the Rockets... That's a tough contract in this Marketplace. Not sure anyone else was offering that.

I don't think it's always about what's the market this year especially for rfas. Houston couldnt afford to alienate Capela by forcing him to take the QO. There was no way they could replace what he gave them in the open market without cap space. Pretty much why Cleveland was held hostage a couple of times while LeBron was there. They had to pay whatever it takes to keep a competitive team around LeBron.

Guilty as charged but if signing Whiteside would have kept us from signing Deng and Mozgov then we'd still have Russell on the team and at least Whiteside would be tradeable. Who knows how things might have turned out.

These what if's though... It's interesting to see though... He may have made us marginally better. We would have lost out on Lonzo. Without trading Russell and mozgov, we might not have either kuzma or hart. And even if we got whiteside we probably would have ended up with Deng.

And remember he makes a lot more than mozgov. Would he really be that more tradeable? Miami wants to but can't find takers. Would we have signed lebron with that much less cap space and what seems to be less of a supporting cast?

Lots of what ifs but I think we're in a good place.

Do you guys feel that playing Deng 10-15 minutes a game to help rise his value up in a hope to trade him would be worth it?

At this point we might want to re-evaluate Deng. Let's see how he fare in the Africa VS the World thing. Then try to play him as a 4 or 5 this season. Nobody is taking him. Might as well find a way to make him of any use.
