Derozan felt disrespected.......and there is nothing wrong with that. Some of you need to figure out how to not get so bent out of shape about it & learn to be a little more understanding.

He'll learn some lessons from this. Its his first time moving organizations.....

Paraphrasing he essentially did. He said we gave you a chance to show you're that level of player, you didn't, we had to go get that player.

I can see why he spent the last nine years driving that work ethics narrative (same way he is with "loyalty" now) He thinks he's above all else as long as he appears to work hard.

This is how parents talk about their kids in elementary school.

Derozan is a parent. He needs to grow up, be professional and realize the NBA is a buisness, not a boys club.

There is a world of difference between being upset, and making defamatory comments about your employer on the way out.

I've seen the whole "fired from their job" comparison on here, and what Demar did was equivalent to getting fired (or transferred to another city) and then sending a group email to everyone he knows that the organization lies and cant be trusted. Then later on, when hearing what the company said in response to that (when they shouldn't have had to say anything at all) is to send out another passive aggressive message implying that's not true either (the facepalm). Then his agent doubles down and says the same thing. And now, in an actual interview, he backs away from the initial comments and says that the company's story was actually what happened, that there was a discussion about the future that he was relying on that was taken away when the company chose to change directions. Now he is saying he wanted to be warned in advance - not that he was lied to.

In other words, he started all this anti-Toronto hate over a false accusation.
(and this is why people are escorted out of some companies when they are let go - to prevent them from doing stupid things)

How can I expect his supporters to understand the difference when Demar himself probably doesn't?

If this is part of the greater interview, this is yet another thing he's taking out of context. Masai had every right in that interview to defend himself. Just because you worked hard and got better, doesn't mean you're here forever if you can't get it done.

He worked hard for who? for himself, if he didn't he wouldn't have gotten a max contract.

This is where you'd typically send a functionary like Webster to call up DeMar's agent and give him a heads up and ask him to let DeMar know smth might happen.

But the Raptors organization is so leak proof that they probably bristle at the idea of telling agents anything since agents are the sources for 90% of stories out there.

But to play devil's advocate, what would happen if Masai did let Demar know while talks were getting heated and then all of a sudden they cool off again and the trade never goes through? I'm wondering if Demar would have posted something similar or watch his back this season if he knew he was actively being shopped/was almost traded.

Lowry wants to be a GM one day hopefully he somewhat understands. I mean it's not like MU traded them right after making the finals, we went out in WOAT fashion. I can see lowry being salty about them not calling DD and that quote though

I worked really hard at basketball, too, and still, all 30 NBA teams didn't draft me. All this time I thought it was because I wasn't good enough; now I know it wasn't me, it was them!

That's my point....he will learn. He was a kid when he started in Toronto and and known nothing else in his NBA career.

He's still a young guy and has had no experience with this type of thing.

Bottom line - DeMar probably didn't read into the vibes (if any) he was getting from Masai or didn't take the rumors seriously, and felt blindsided. And as someone who wanted to finish his career in Toronto and be an all-time figure here, he felt like it could have been handled better, and Masai did apologize for that. Both sides will move forward.
