I'd personally do this, but I don't think the Bulls would. What do you think? This would put them in the 2020 offseason with Parker, Dunn, Valentine, and Hill all expiring.
Pelicans have a very good chance of missing the playoffs. I expect 6 or so teams to be battling for the 7 and 8 seeds next year. GSW, HOU, SAS, LAL, UTA, and OKC look to be ahead of them in the standings, and POR, DEN, LAC, MIN, and even MEM (Conley will be back) may be battling with New Orleans for those last two slots. Very similar to last year. That pick would have a strong likelihood of being in the top 14.
The downside of the deal is that Solomon Hill takes $11+ million into the 2019-2020 season which hampers FA flexibility next offseason. I'm not a huge fan of that, but I also don't think the Bulls are going to have a strong chance of hitting on a top flight free agent, so accumulating an extra draft pick makes a lot of sense to me.
A very interesting trade for the Bulls. It's pretty much taking on Hill's last year (13,290,395) for a first round pick. As far as the Pelicans are concerned, they could definitely use Holiday, but I think their good at the bigs with Davis, Niko, Randle, and Diallo. They even have Okafor on the books for next season.
If the Pels balked, I'd counter with Valentine for Miller and Jackson.
