DD's sacrifice wording probably relates to time with his family, it must be hard being so far away from your ailing parents.

Would be awesome if Masai can get Kawhi to replace Demar in the BWB and Africa game. That would dramatically shift the narrative.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Watching the full video a couple of times now, there is no question that Demar is both hurt and angry. He is entitled to both, but people remember things differently through that sort of emotional viewpoint, and then recollections will be tainted with confirmation bias instead of being a 100% accurate portrayal of what happened. It's like the whole police witness thing when you are stressed out and under pressure to say something.

He directly said "in my mind, things were like..." and he is likely speaking out loud in the interview what was going on in his mind, but what may not have been spoken as clearly to Masai. On the flipside, I think this is also the case with Masai during the press conference. He's not giving a word-for-word transcript of the conversation, but paraphrasing what was said in a way that clarifies what he intended to convey to Demar, but perhaps didn't do clearly enough. He wears some blame for the miscommunication and owned up to it, but he shouldn't have said as much as he did - that just opened the door to more things to dissect or attack.

We all remember stressful or high stakes conversations in this way, going over them in our heads afterwards and filling in blanks or that we should have said but didn't. I highly doubt Demar asked him point blank "Are you or are you not trading me to the Spurs?" or "Do you promise that you're not not to trading me?" Those are too direct and confrontation and he just doesn't really talk like that, especially around authority.

I fully believe that they both danced around the conversation in some way. Demar thinks he got a clear cut answer on not being traded, while Masai thinks he did the right thing in holding his cards close to his chest and not giving a commitment one way or the other to Demar. The result of that is what we have now, and Demar not realizing that was the only correct answer Masai could have given him at the time. That answer was as honest as Masai was able to be while doing his job responsibly, and it's entirely unfair to make a huge case of it.

My problem is that his lack of professionalism here is both a bad look on him, and makes Masai and the team look bad too. He's burning bridges and scorching the earth instead of understanding the other side of it. By comparison, look at someone like JV who has been part of trade talk for a couple of years, to the point that he even thought he was being traded for Drummond. He didn't fall to pieces after that, and he basically thanked Masai for not trading him. He has openly said he loves it here and would love to stay in Toronto his whole career, but even after that was almost taken away from him, he simply grabbed his lunchbucket and went back to work. Demar's response is proof that it would have been so simple to go back to work if a trade fell apart and he had to come back afterwards. Why would Masai risk those problems, if he didn't have a very strong belief the trade would happen?

If Demar wants to prevent from looking like a baby coming into San Antonio, he needs to put on his big boy pants and stop talking. Stop fueling the trolls at ESPN and get his head ready for what's coming from Pop - because that ain't gonna be easy.

Any guesses on what we might hear?

I hate Derozan.

I commend you for surviving!

I have no doubt in my mind demar will torch us when he sees us. I also think there's a chance that under pop and his motivation "to bring hell" to the league could unleash a new demar. However I think he would have never been good for us, he needed a trade to realize he's not good enough to carry a team.

I love Demar but it will be tough to torch us when we lengthy defenders like Kawhi, OG, Siakim, Delon and even Powell guarding him if need be.

People are forgetting we now have the best defense in the league.

Former players like Vince and T-mac torched us, but:
1) they were HoF talents
2) we were 45-47 win caliber teams, not 60 win, as we are now.
3) we had no amazing wings to defend them. We now have Kawhi, OG, Green, Siakam. Ridiculous.

Who cares if he torches us as long as we win the game. If his on/off stats stay the same in SA, we'll probably be able to exploit his presence on the floor.

He didn't even seem offended lol

To make it worse, Drummond is someone he regularly dominates, so to be in talks for him would def be a blow to the ego

Most likely Demar and Masai had some beef going back to when he was drafted or something. Maybe Masai never liked him that much and made it visible or maybe he criticized him too much in private. Never gave him the blind love Colangelo or Casey gave him.

interesting take.

demar was never masai's guy.

found it odd when he went on about some respect he earned when masai didnt draft him and inherited this core.

when masai said i gave "them" chances thats how he really felt. a core he knew was flawed but didnt correct...they will get the blame tho not him.

3. Demar got traded.

No real surprises, betrayal here.

thats what they told fanatics not agents.

rumours are rumours why would a team even acknowledge them.

when teams say everyone is on the block they are just appeasing the fan base.

he gave them no chance in hell. what idiot believed any raptor team in the past 4 seasons could beat the cavs?

when you trout out the same roster you will get the exact same results. the revisionist history has to end.

adding ibaka doesnt mean you can beat a lebron/kyrie/love led cavs. im sure MLSE loved the playoff revenue but lets be real here.

Well he is literally slandering the Raptors. Saying they lied -- damaging the organization's reputation and potential in the future to attract FA's. 5 days later it becomes "misled" or "disrespected."

he said masai lied..he has a problem with one individual.

clearly said he loves the organization and larry T.

Shoot, he just took our team credibility down a lot.

Oh please. Lakers, Celtics and Cavs/Heat have all done this in the recent or distant past and players getting mad at them and it never hurt them much.

People will see the true nature of this trade when we're in the ECF or NBA Finals and SA is life and death for a playoff spot or first round and out.

I won't hate on DeMar as a guy, he repped Toronto well, but his behaviour right now is exactly the reason you can't be upfront with him because he'd have made a huge deal about it and blown up so many trade opportunities. And the organization made it very clear that nobody was off-limits right from the end of season presser.

la/celtics have over half the championships since the 70's.
