Bayless: Vince Carter played himself out of HOF in late career

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Thu Jul 26, 2018 7:54 pm

Skip Bayless said today he considered Vince Carter a Hall of Famer until he began bouncing from team to team late in his fading career, and that put him out.

Thoughts?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Bayless and Cowherd both sound like they've never watched a full basketball game in their lives.

My thoughts is it reflects poorly on you that you listen or watch skip and then think it’s a valid enough opinion or debate to make a topic about.
The dude is paid to say dumb stuff. He knows what he’s saying is dumb.

His late career has no impact on what he did in his prime which is likely a hof career based on the relatively low standards.

They'd fit right in on RGM then. :D

I scratch my head when people -- even certified dumb asses like Skip Bayless -- say this stuff. Just the other day there was a debate on Twitter on whether Carmelo is a Hall of Famer (of course he is.) They obviously have no idea who is already in. If marginals like KC Jones (zero All-Star selections) and Calvin Murphy (one) were selected, how do you Vince out?

yep, we should definitely start punishing athletes for having long healthy career and a love of the game that keeps them going long after others have left.

Once you've done enough to get in, you're in. You can't bounce yourself out. That makes no sense

We can have the discussion of whether Vince is in or not, that's fine. But can we change the title? Let's not give guys like SAS and Skip the time and breath. They do not merit it.

VC fans probably hoped he'd ring chase at the tail end of his career instead of playing for lottery teams.

It doesn't affect his argument for HOF though, that should be based on other factors.

Scroll down the NBA list from this link - anyone with an asterisks is Hall Of Fame, anyone in bold is still active and then you have Kobe, Duncan, Pierce and Garnett that were not yet eligible.

If you score 20k points - you are basically guaranteed HOF. Only Tom Chambers and Antawn Jamison hit 20k and didn't make it and they barely scraped in. Joe Johnson even has a chance. Vinces cousin made HOF

Vince is clearly trying to play himself into a coaching career. He was very important to the development of the Kings young players last year appearing to work with them quite a bit in between the games. I commend him for having the attitude of wanting to give back. In some ways it is kind of unfortunate for fans because Vince is one of the super rare 40+ year olds that could contribute to a contender.

I don't know if I agree with that. Sure there are plenty of people on ESPN that are terrible but would still listen to what Zach Lowe has to say over anyone at FS1.
