I tried out Shadow of War a few months ago when they had a free weekend of it on PSN. I didn't play a ton of it, but it felt like more of the same, which I guess could be a good or a bad thing depending on how much you like Shadow of Mordor. I like both the games alright, but I feel like they get kind of stale after a while, even though I think the nemesis system is still such an awesome and compelling feature. It seems like you played a lot of Mordor, so I'm sure you'll like War. It seems like it's often on sale though, so I might recommend waiting until then.
DB FighterZ is really great though. I love how the game looks and plays.

ok if its more of the same Ill wait for a discount and buy it :p thanks for the answer
one thing I hate about Shadow of Mordor is enemies spawn ....they are freaking everywhere...you are sure you cleared that 10 meter spectrum you turn back for a second and bam there are 10 new enemies ... tho its gets easier when you are able to brand them

You can get a 2017 55 inch Sony XBR 990E for right under $1k now. I would strongly suggest saving up a little more and getting that. It is such a nicer TV then the TCL. The thing is that if you get a 4K TV you are going to use it for movies and sports in the future, so you want to make it a bit of an investment.
That's a good point.....I see the Sony XBR 990E has stellar reviews. Maybe I'll just save up and buy one of these instead...
Yeah that TV is pretty dope for gaming and reasonably priced. I have a 65 inch Samsung 4K Curved TV 8500 Series which you can see if you want by clicking on https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Curved-65-Inch-Smart-UN65KS8500FXZA/dp/B01C5TFIYQ. It's a shame that Samsung stopped making this TV because it has been a beast for me for 4K gaming.
If you want to review TVs in terms of the 4K gaming performance, go to https://www.rtings.com/. These guys test every function on every TV they review so that you know exactly what you are going to buy.
Those curved TVs are so gorgeous in person, would love to get one one day.......I'm perusing through rtings right now. They actually have a filter that lets you dictate what you'll use your TV the most for and will show you a list of TVs based on that. That's really useful, would recommend to anyone else here lurking who might be thinking of buying a 4K TV: https://www.rtings.com/tv

I used to LOVE Shenmue. Shenmue III is supposed to come out next year...
If I'm not mistaken, Shenmue was the first to start QTEs, which is used all over the place now.

FFBlitzace wrote:I haven't played much lately. I was playing Horizon Zero Dawn and going for 100%, as I usually do in games, but I got bored. I feel like "open world" is shoehorned into everything now, and I get tired of walking around a huge world for no reason. Being empty isn't great, but what's worse than being empty is being waylaid by enemies all the time that essentially give you nothing for killing them. I'd rather it just be empty. Technically you get XP and loot, but the low level loot doesn't matter and the XP becomes negligible after a certain point. Besides, a lot of games now also shoehorn in the XP system, and there isn't much of a difference between level 1 and level 30. Because there can't be. If someone wants to skip everything and only do the main quests, they have to be able to, so the game isn't designed around strict level requirements. All the skills are useless and everything is pointless. That's how I describe a lot of these mainstream games now.
I'll be getting the Shenmue collection, since I have fond memories of playing the first one on Dreamcast and I never played the second. I'll also be getting the new Dragon Quest. Other than that, I don't know if there's anything else I'll be playing soon, aside from daily Fire Emblem Heroes on mobile. I really want a Switch for Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, etc, but I really don't want to buy one yet. What are the chances that the current model will remain the primary model for the entirety of the Switch's lifespan? Both of the other consoles got upgraded, and Nintendo upgraded the 3DS. Surely there will be a new model at some point.
I still think some games do it right. Horizon was definitely one of those games that I feel did that. The unique combat and enemies really kept me interested all the way through. Zelda Botw was another one that just kept me incredibly immersed all the way through as well. I loved how god of war did it too.
I get your point in general though. I don’t even touch the AC or fallout franchises anymore as they have all gotten stale for me. It’s still important for franchises to innovate and keep things interesting when making an open world game.
As far as your switch question, I wouldn’t expect a new system anytime soon. The Switch is selling incredibly well right now and has only been out for a year. I would say it will be atleast 2 and more than likely 3 years before we see a Switch XL. They have no reason to make one currently.
Now one thing they have done in Japan is started selling them without a dock (if you are more interested in playing in handheld mode) so that they can sell them about 80-90 dollars less than usual. So there is a chance that they do that in the states at some point. But I wouldn’t expect a new one anytime soon, if at all. I’m pretty sure the GameCube, wii, and Wii U never got updated or enhanced models and the Switch is viewed as their new home console.

I disagree with the part that I bolded in your post. Shenmue 1 & 2 are cult classics that gamers have begged to be remastered in some fashion for next-gen consoles. Shenmue 3 is on the horizon thanks to the overwhelming response from gamers to have this game see the light of day. They donated so much to the Kickstarter for this game and exceeded the desired goal with ease. This series was the birth of QTE (quick-time events) which plenty of games have used especially Quantic Dream who have made very successful games with this mechanic (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human). I expect this collection to sell very well tbh.

Re: OT- Official Gaming Thread
Wall of text incoming.
The reasons people are expecting a new Switch version is maybe seperated into these arguments:
1. Switch is Nintendo's newest, current console. It is also, a hybrid console. Playable on a TV or in handheld.
Nintendo hasn't had a long history of console revisions. There are however a few, like for example the Wii got some revisions, like including Wii Motion Plus controllers and then the versions where it could not play GameCube games and had no GameCube controller and gamecard ports, fewer USB ports, even no online functionality. NES, SNES, N64 (aside from bundles with games and colors of the console and controllers), GameCube and Wii U didn't see any big changes through their lifecycles, if there were, they were often minimal and had no real effect on consumers. Mostly redesigns of hardware or parts.
On the other hand, their handhelds have had A LOT of new models, revisions and redesigns. Just look at the Game Boy, DS and 3DS (and later, 2DS) family of handhelds. It is HUGE. Changes vary from minor to major, from colors to hardware to casing design.
Now, the question is.. does the Switch follow the path of the home console "minor revisions" history or the handhelds "revision extravaganza"? Many think the Switch is looked at as a handheld with home console possibilities. So...
It's easy for Nintendo to change the control method because the controllers are modular. The JoyCons can be changed easily and different versions made and released without having to change the whole manufactoring of the console itself. Fully equipped JoyCons with D-pad instead of the directional buttons (current version) but with everything built in (unlike the new Hori JoyCons with D-pads).
2. The Switch has issues with homebrew/hackers. Nintendo knows it. Their SDK (software development kit) recently leaked online. Now anyone can access the system and do whatever they want with it, if I understand it correctly. I haven't followed much on that subject, but Nintendo has been working on fixing this homebrew/hacking thing.
There have been reports about a new SKU for the Switch. A revision that might be hardware/operating system related to put an end to this problem for Nintendo.
Will the Switch get any other changes if/when this revision hits store shelves? Different look? Different screen? Different.. anything? Not sure. That revision might even have been shipped already and nobody would know it because the changes might be invisble to the naked eye.. unless you screw the thing apart and look deeper into it.
3. Small to major issues with current model. There have been reports of various issues.
As early as pre-launch, people were reporting issues with the left JoyCon losing signal and not responding. It was an issue with the antenna built inside it. Some people solved the issue themselves by soldering a bigger antenna into the JoyCon. Nintendo however sent out a console OS update that would fix it. I personally experienced this issue slightly at the beginning but after Nintendo update, it was gone but there are still people having the issue.
Heat issue related, like the console bending slightly-to-greatly due to heating up while docked. Mine is slightly bent. There might be a revision where the heatsink is changed and exhaust vents made bigger. Again, you might never know about the change unless it was opened or the vents clearly bigger/different. Maybe bigger, louder fan.
People have reported scratched screens because the dock is rubbing against the screen when docking/undocking. This might call for a dock revision and you'd never know about it, unless Nintendo stated there were new versions of it shipped after certain date.
Recently there have been reports on the Switch casing breaking at certain points. This might again be heat-related and the plastic and metals expand too much, causing breaks/bends. The cracks appear near or around the heatvents, volume button and ports. This might call for a casing revision as well as cooling. The dock might also need a better solution to keep the Switch cool while it is docked. A more open air-flow dock? Small fan in the dock to improve air-flow? Who knows..
4. The Switch internals are very modular. Actually, a very clever design. It's easy to swap out parts of the internal hardware, like memory, CPU/GPU and whatnot. Many think this is designed this way by Nvidia and Nintendo to make way for future improvements (Switch "Pro" for example) and might support the theory that the current Switch is "not even it's final form". This includes screen change to a high resolution one if a more powerful Switch is release in the future.
To add to that theory, there are patents registered by Nintendo from when the console was codenamed "NX" that it has a "supplemental computing device" that is added to the NX/Switch to add to graphical power.
What this is, no one knows. Is it a desktop box you add to the console to give it extra horsepower? Is it a device to give it more horsepower through online streaming (Cloud gaming: Resident Evil 7 on Switch for example)? Is it a new dock with internal hardware to give the console added power?
--
All in all, the Switch is designed and built with future improvements and changes in mind. It is not unlikely a revision or two will hit shelves without the regular consumer ever knowing. A new, different version, both in terms of external design and internal design/hardware/power is also not out of the question because how it is designed by Nvidia/Nintendo. To me, there will be a new, more powerful Switch sooner than later.

Hmmm.....If they do release a new Switch I hope they at least announce it before the Holidays. That's when I plan to get mine, but I'll just hold off if they are bringing out a new one.

Nice, I have it on the 4 and really enjoy it but my friends don't really play it over here. Definitely gonna get it on the One then.

Re: OT- Official Gaming Thread
Anyone here playing Monster Hunter World?
I want to like it, I get glimpses of hope, a short burst of fun and joy, but then it hits me back with its steep learning curve and too many things to be mindful of.
I've tried to like the MH games before. I had Tri for the Wii back in the day and it was the same for me. Wanted to like it, but never got "it".
Same with turn based RPGs/JRPGs like Octopath Traveler. I want to like it. I want to enjoy it. I REALLY like the art style of it and the memories I have of the 16-bit era. I haven't bought it, because I'm almost certain I'll play it for an hour and then find out it just isn't for me. These kinds of games seem to just don't fit me and I think it's the same with MHW. I've never been fond of too complex games. Those two are not the most complex, of course, but you get my point?
So, yeah I've got MHW sitting on my Xbox and I haven't touched it for weeks. It's like a pretty girl that you like, but has lots of baggage and brings you short time of joy but more hassle and headscratching.
Anyone willing to share some knowledge, how they enjoyed MHW and just some short tips and tricks?

I own Monster Hunter World as well but on the PS4 instead of the XBOX because there is more exclusive content given to the ones who own the PS4 copy of the game. I too haven't played it yet (still in its plastic wrapping actually) but that is because I have other games I have to get through first lol. Surprisingly this version of Monster Hunter is the easiest to get into compared to the previous games. With this type of game, it is best to play with friends who have it that can teach you the ropes (weapon/armor customization, strengths and weaknesses of weapon types, how to hunt certain enemy types successfully, etc). That is what I did with Monster Hunter 3 when I played it on the Wii back in the day. This game does have a pretty steep learning curve but it is an amazing series once you get the hang of things.

I'm the same way with Monster Hunter. I've owned 3 of them in my life and hated them all. Everything about it sounds like I would love it, so I go back and try it when a new one comes out. Then I play it, and the controls feel so clunky and awful, and I get no clear vision of a progression path, and missions feel pointless, and then I'm just done with it. It's always been very confusing to me. I'm willing to believe that I need to stick with it longer, and I typically do have a long leash with things since I enjoy long grinds, but I just can never make myself continue to play Monster Hunter.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

I love MH and think it is the game of the year. Doesn’t feel clunky to me, it reminds me a bit of dark souls actually.
How I enjoy it - not sure how to answer that one. I don’t play video games too much, so when something sucks me in, thats when I know it is good. With Monster hunter the first thing was finding a weapon that I enjoyed using. The second was realizing that most of the quests are not a major timesuck if you play efficiently. By that I mean, you can knock out multiple tasks in one run.
I guess I enjoyed the learning curve. I like deep games. Pick up and play games for me are great, but they get old fast. MH keeps adding more layers to what you can do, so the clear path is essentially molding your player into what type of hunter you want them to be. Slowly adding jewels and armor over time is cool. It reminds me a lot of diablo in that way.
Additionally, they keep adding free DLC and evolving the game. And the DLC is legit. So it is a rare instance of a major company making a game and keeping the integrity of it. Other stuff like Call of Duty, Madden, Battlefield all seem like they are more about the flash now - what songs are playing in the background. How much money can they pump into ads. It’s basicaly the same game every year and there always seems to be some kind of crazy in game pay to play thing that ruins it.
I am not into turn based RPGs either. In any way, thought I would add that, since I can relate there.
I did get No Mans sky and I am enjoying it. It is an excellent game, butthey need to iron some bugs out, which are corrupting saves. I am looking forward to possibly getting Fallout, the CyberPunk game and I am really hoping Insurgency comes to consoles as they say it will next year.
But basically for me, I usually get into 2-3 games a year and thats about it. If all my friends go all in on something, I will usually get it so we can play together, but last time that was Overwatch and I got kind of sick of that one.
