Nah...its silly season. The absolute worst.

Multiple sauces reporting that Williams shortchanged the lower back set of molars while brushing his teeth last night.

What a wasted pick! Fire Danny!

Clever--but unfair and inaccurate.

Robert Williams will make the team. He is not going to the G league. Celtics are very high on him unlike lot of people who have given up on him without him playing a single game. Honestly they should be ignored.

Robert Williams will stay with the team while they work on his development. Things like ball handling, passing, setting proper screens, boxing out, shooting etc. I see him playing 10 minutes while working on his game.

I don’t think he’s ready for minutes with main club. Some G-League minutes could help his development.

In the G league he can pick up bad habits. I think he makes the celtics team. They are better equipped in helping him develop as a player. All he has to do , this season is block shots, rebound and learn some few plays. That is it.

Agree. Not only will he benefit from being with the Celtics, he also possesses some skills that will benefit the team for short stints and certain matchups. Williams is off the charts on certain metrics. Let’s see what Brad can do with him.

Sounds about right to me--as long as he's earning it with his professional commitment.

One would say earning it is riding in the G-league.

I don't think he'll pick up bad habits there, the entire point of it is to develop.

Now will they play team basketball? Maybe not but the coaches are there to drill him and will be watching his play with their development plan in place. It isn't like our affiliate isn't... well affiliated with the Celtics.

Robert Williams will 100% be on the James Young plan. He'll practice with the Celtics, but play games with Maine. He's not going to pick up bad habits playing in the NBAGL. Maine is run by the Celtics. It's coaches who will be with the team for the entirety of camp and preseason. They run essentially the same system.

He's not going to play any meaningful minutes this year. He starts the year behind Horford, Baynes, Theis and Yabusele in the big man pecking order. Plus whatever minutes Tatum and Morris play as bigs. The Celtics have no plans for Williams to play in the NBA this season. If he does, it means he's either way better than anyone thinks. Or the whole season went to ****.

And for those saying "throw him 10 minutes a game", then you can't get pissed when Stevens is playing 12 guys a night. Because that is the only way that sort of thing works.

I mean I spent a ton of time around the team and talked to everyone I could and Williams was a big topic of conversation. There is also the fact that he's never played in the NBA, the team is a contender, and he's at best the 4th big in the rotation.

But yeah. You need the coach to tell you exactly what the plan is.

Sometimes some of you make it pleasant to walk away from here and not post as much.

Keith got it right. Kid is our 4th center right now. He is going to have to fight for minutes.

Not counting on him to have a big role in Boston. He needs Maine to learn how to play nba basketball.

Although RWIII did not play much during SL, when he did play he seemed to play well and affect the game positively for the Celtics. The sixers seemed to stop driving to the basket during the short period he played. That is much different than James Young who came in at 17 yrs old and needed a ton of development befire playing. Also Brad Stevens interveiw would indicate that he thinks RWIII can help this season, because he can provide elite defense and rebounding. Now the Celtics are much deeper than when JY played for them, so PT will be harder to get, but IMO Brad Stevens will find a way to use RWIII unique defensive abilities. We shall see how things progress in TC.

How does a defensive minded big man pick up bad habits playing in the g league? Did it hurt Clint Capela, who everyone and their mothers wants to compare him to? He already seems to have a couple of bad habits that he needs to fix, he's not close to earning minutes with the big club yet.

:o He played six fricken minutes.....Williams is as raw as they come on the offensive end, he's not in the best physical condition, and Boston is already plenty deep at the center position(especially if Al starts at the five).

I mean he spends time with the Celtics organization more than all of us. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.

Return to Boston Celtics
