Houston, we have a problem (JR Smith)

Post#1 » by DeathLineup » Wed Aug 1, 2018 4:49 pm

I've heard they kicked the tires on JR Smith

What would it take for Houston to get JR Smith?

Do you think this is a good idea for Houston?

Give us James Harden and we'll call it a deal.

Teams are going full potato in a desperate attempt to keep up with the Warriors.

Depending on what they give up (Ryan Anderson + ??), why exactly is this a bad idea? The man has been to 4 straight NBA finals.

JR is a nut however, HOU needs to do something after losing Arize and Luc.

Of course it's a good idea. If your team can't play defense, load up on offensive stars. Why worry about stopping the Warriors when you can just outshoot them?

Smith may have slipped a bit but he has been a plus defender most of his career. And he's definitely a better defensive player than Ryan Anderson, the main player that would be going the other direction, he was unplayable against the Warriors last spring.

Good deal pretty good on defense but they would need him to bounce back after last season he had a down year.

Missing the context that makes this make a lot more sense. His contract in 19-20 is partially guaranteed, they’d trade Ryno for him to get out of some guaranteed money and maybe get a guy that gives them depth on the wing.

Neither player should be on the court in the playoffs, not terrible to get the cheaper one. I guess Cavs do this to get a knuckle head off the team to rebuild the culture...? Otherwise don’t really see the appeal unless they get a minor asset.

they need defense to replace ariza and mbah a moute. and i dont see how JR provides that. not the right move if you ask me..

not a "bad" move to add a streaky shooter who could go off in any game, but he doesnt provide what they missed. he's just not really a great defender.. you can get better one dimensional defense only guys from the gleague on a 2 way contract or minimum that would be a better play than JR smith

If Houston is actually considering trading for Smith, it's for the contract, not the player.

A partially guaranteed contract next year is huge trade asset. AND of course, they rid themselves of Anderson's contract.

I think they have other options on the table, I doubt they end up trading for JR Smith.

Rockets are just trying to get rid of Anderson’s contract and maybe get another bad contract but at least someone they can use instead of just having Anderson on the roster nor really playing.
