EDIT: Kyrie doesn't qualify for the supermax, so his 5 year extension would be 187mil. 32.4mil the first year to 42.7mil the last year.

I’m not sure rozier is a full time starting pg but if he is it’s probabky better than keeping kyrie at 200 mil if they can get something for him.

I’d think they’re gonna try keep him though given they traded for him.

kyrie won't sign now, and lost out on the additional money (who can blame him there). they'll play the season out, and negotiate from there. the Cs championship window is open right now. i would be shocked if they considered trading him (rozier is a great backup, but not a high end starter).

C's shoudlnt trade him, but theyre in a pretty tough spot next year. They should sign Kyrie and try to trade him, imo. Though it'll be a tough sell for future FA to sign on. They wont get much right now and they have an outside shot at a championship, so they shouldnt trade him now.

That said, the C's are about to be in cap and luxury tax hell. They need to be economical with their money; giving 40 mill/year over 5 years to a guy who's ended half his career seasons on the IR is worrying. But whats really the alternative?

Celtics will more than likely let the season play out.

Trading Kyrie is surrendering the season before it began, because no team is going to offer fair value for an oft injured player who can walk after the season or have to pay him big money to stay.

Extension hurts both the Celtics and Kyrie. Celtics would lose cap flexibility next offseason to attempt to sign a max free agent player or trade for the pipe dream target of AD. Kyrie can get more money if he waits to re-sign next offseason with the Celtics for a max contract or relocate to a new team. These NBA stars love to be wined and dined and being chased after like the hot girl at the club.

Only logical conclusion is they play it out and see if they got what it takes to beat the GSW.

This whole thing is so goofy to me. The Kyrie is leaving Boston thing started when a random reporter in Chicago said Kyrie and Jimmy Butler are friendly with each other. Then another random reporter said several years ago while on the Cavs Kyrie mentioned in passing to a teammate that he would be open to playing for the Knicks at some point in his career. And that was all that was needed for NY fans and media to turn this into Kyrie is going to the Knicks. And now the Nets fans and media are in on it too, I guess. Seriously, that's the whole thing... he knows Jimmy Butler and does not hate the city of New York.

I don't think there's anything there, is what I'm trying to say. He won't take an extension now because it will cost him a lot of money. That's how almost everyone plays it and it is not unusual or cause for alarm. The C's will eventually offer him a max contract and dude will do what he wants to do. I am confident what he wants to do is stay in Boston where he has a great coach, great group of guys around him, and a great chance to win. He's done or said nothing to make one think he is unhappy or looking to make a change. So I don't see any more worry with him than any other free agent.
