What if Kyrie wanted Tatum traded for a star? Let’s say he demanded them trade Tatum I doubt Ainge would follow suit. Only player he would consider moving Tatum for would be Anthony Davis imo. I think Kyrie will realize he only has so much pull and is not the leader of this team longterm. Maybe he is this season but sooner than later Tatum/Irving will clash. This will be Tatum’s team and Brown is coming to join the party. Irving is the piece to the puzzle but his knee issues scare me for any five year contract close to $200MM. Luckily BOS is set up so well even if KYRIE becomes an injury nightmare they have youthful talent with a surplus of draft picks that will help longterm

As a NYK fan I really would prefer going after KD over Kyrie. Kyrie/KD would be ideal but without moving contracts they can only sign one max deal. If not I would hope to target Giannis/AD the following off-seasons.

They will re-sign Irving, and draft Zion or Reddish to add to the Duke collection.

Kyrie and Tatum both went to Duke and hosted a basketball camp together over the summer. Why on earth would Kyrie want him traded?

It's pretty silly math to think that just because a FA has interest in multiple teams, that there is an equal chance he'll go to each team.

If you have no proof he stays in Boston and no proof anywhere else then you have to assume it's equal. This all based in reviewing the teams based on his comments to leave he Cavs. Not all teams are considered, if I did then the odds would be much higher that he leaves.

Usually you can build relationships with players tying them to the city but Kyrie seems different.

I guess you have to trust the Celtics management on this one, they would know more than us.

No, you don't have to assume that, and shouldn't. If anything, you should look at the base rate for FAs of his approximate stature (ie. very likely to get a max deal) returning to their team. I don't know what that is but I highly doubt it's 25% as you're basically claiming. That would at least be an assumption based on some precedence rather than just splitting up 100% in four equal parts. Assuming equal chance of going to every team he might be rumored to be interested in is faulty logic.

Not sure about that.

I don't buy into the NY rumors that much but even so I think a big part of retaining Kyrie will also be letting him actually have that stage again against the Warriors...

The crazy amount of attention back on him (and imo legit chance to win) I think will eliminate maybe the 5-10% doubt he might have of leaving. Tbh I really think that the more serious concern is will Ainge offer him the max???

Ainge is a shrewd, calculated GM in this "dirty game". If he worries about Kyrie's health, figures that Rozier can provide much of the same (not that I believe he can especially in the massive Playoff moments) and that eventually Tatum can blossom into the franchise player to a championship team maybe he comes in a bit "light" on his contract offer knowing he has to pay everyone. Not saying he will but it's a possibility. I just think that, that's a greater issue to Kyrie re-signing than it is the "allure" of NY.

Thank god he’s going to re-sign with Boston so I can come back to this thread for the laughs and quoting everyone who is blatantly wrong.

I said that in the wiretap discussion on this topic that it would be very unlike Danny Ainge to lose Kyrie Irving for nothing. It makes you wonder why he was not even considered to be offered in any talks for Kawhi Leonard. Ainge must have some strong reasons to consider that he is going to sign an extension

Trading for a rental of Leonard was probably never an option, especially considering how stingy the Spurs were with their asking price.

Even with Kyrie's future in the air after next season, the tantalizing prospects of having a Celtics core with Kyrie is too promising. .

The problem with everything you wrote here is A: Kyrie’s contract expires the same time as Leonard, so they’re both basically rentals until they sign and extensions and B: Leonard is a far superior player to Kyrie, so I’m confused on how a core with Kyrie would be more tantalizing.

Well they're are probably 3 other teams that he would prefer to play for given what he has said in the past, playing for Knicks, Nets, Clippers.

Even if they were equally likely, it's still 75% likely that he leaves.

Do you have any proof that he prefers any of those teams to the Boston Celtics?

The Kyrie situation has helped me understand what concern trolling is. This is the same situation as people telling me that losing Avery and Crowder was going to outright gaining Hayward

Tbh I feel like many BOS fans already have Tatum pegged for that spot, while it's still Kyrie now, I think that it's not a question of "if" to them but "when". Even if Kyrie is there in a couple of years I'll bet people will be debating who's team it is, if he's gone, there's no question who it is.

I expect the Cs to let the season play out without trading him they are a contending team and unless they could get an equivalent win now player back (unlikely) then one season of Kyrie is likely worth more than they get back in a trade scenerio. I wouldn’t be surprised for Kyrie to want a 2+1 max deal so he can cash in when he has 10 years in. Cs of course would probably want to lock him in as long as possible. They keep Rozier as insurance and then make the decision on Rozier after Kyrie.

Better question is why would the Raps want Kyrie when yesterday Raps fans said Kyrie was the most overrated player of all time. I guess he's only overrated if he's in Boston.

Obviously Ainge has gotten to know KI and feels confident he's in it for the long haul. Or yeah, you're right, he would have offered KI for Kawhi. The fact that he wasn't offered is good evidence the C's have nothing to worry about, because if there was a real question about it Ainge would get value for him. Ainge has been shuffling the deck every year but now he finally has a roster he thinks is a legit title contender, and Kyrie is the face of it.
