Would an all-time Piston team beat the Warriors in *today's* rules/officiating?
Offshoot to a thread in GD.
Take any players at their best year with the Pistons. (For example you can't get Sacramento Webber, only Detroit Webber).
Do they beat the Warriors under today's rules / officiating?

1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Hell. Yes. Isiah, Joe, Hill, and take your pick-Sheed+Ben or Laimbeer+Rodman up front.

Well most would say Steph > Isiah, Klay > Dumars, and KD > Hill.

For today's game, I'd probably go
Dre, Sheed or Ben
Hill
Chauncey
Dumars
Isiah
Dre, Sheed or Ben
Hill
Chauncey
Dumars
Isiah

I'd take Zeke, Joe, Hill, Rodman & Sheed.
In today's rules Isiah would be virtually ungaurdable, but he's historically been somewhat underrated so not surprised at what other people think. I'd take him and Joe over Steph/Clay without hesitation. And I'd be pretty darn comfortable putting the Worm on Durant.

I'm assuming the Warriors are going with Steph, Klay, KD, Draymond and IGGY....... so.......
Isiah, Joe, Hill, Prince, Sheed
I went with Prince over Rodman simply because he gives them five threats on offense. The Warriors would have to work very hard on defense against those five.
Players like Dre, Lanier and Laimbeer would be total minuses against Golden State's Death Lineup.

To me Rodman is a must because he can switch on defense so readily, and if you can't switch with the Warriors you can't touch them.
I don't disagree with your lineup choice (I don't think Lanier belongs in this matchup), but I worry that it simply won't be able to score efficiently enough to keep up. It wouldn't be a great 3 point shooting team (not that we could build a team that shoots as well as Golden State).

Re: Would an all-time Piston team beat the Warriors in *today's* rules/officiating?
I think the depth created by selecting the best 15 players in Piston's history would be the deciding factor in favor of the Pistons. We can debate Isaiah vs Curry or KD vs Grant Hill but the All-Time Pistons bench would crush GS's bench. I know my lineup has some more traditional bigmen but from what I have seen those traditional lineups can give GS problems.
PG - Thomas/Bing/Billips
SG - Dumars/Hamilton/Stackhouse
SF - Hill/Tripucka/Dantley
PF - Rodman/Sheed/Howell
C- Lanier/Wallace/Laimbeer

I dunno. Maybe most would say that but it doesnt necessarily mean its true. KD>Hill ok but the other 2 I'm taking my Pistons.

Re: Would an all-time Piston team beat the Warriors in *today's* rules/officiating?
I think the 2004 Pistons would match up pretty well to the Warriors, but probably couldn’t beat them in today’s rules.
Billups and RIP is a solid backcourt, Prince could defend KD at a reasonable level, Rasheed stretches the floor and would be a fun matchup against Draymond, and Ben would clean up the glass and make hussle plays. Warriors are sloppy with the basketball, and commit a lot of turnovers. The 2004 squad was young and would capitalize off the Warriors’ mistakes.
With 2004 rules I think it would be a tight series, but I’d give the Warriors the edge in today’s NBA.

Re: Would an all-time Piston team beat the Warriors in *today's* rules/officiating?
Bob Lanier could avg 50ppg on the Warriors. Isiah could avg 30ppg in todays rules.
Isiah/Bing/Billups
Dumars/Rip/Stackhouse
Hill/Dantley/Prince
Sheed/Debuss/Rodman
Lanier/Ben/Laimbeer
Any team that has Laimbeer, Stackhouse and Prince in street clothes is going to overpower the Warriors in a 7 game series. Vinnie, Allen Houston, Bison Dele, Aguirre and Yardley cant even make the team.

If playing under today's ruies:
Warriors starting 5 > Pistons all time starting 5
Pistons all time team > 2018 Warriors
Prime Chauncey, Rip, Vinny, etc off the bench would overwhelm any normal team.

Warriors aren’t a normal team.

Let’s not forget, the Rockets took the Warriors to the brink.
Zeke
Dumars
Hill
Rodman
Sheed
Would beat the warriors. Add in a bench and we’re talking 6 games max

Re: Would an all-time Piston team beat the Warriors in *today's* rules/officiating?
A selection of Piston all time greats, or about any team's for that matter, would surely be better than the dominant team in the league currently. Ignoring the cap issues with assembling such a team results in a true "super team." Playing the game, any such team surely includes the truly underrated and entirely superlative IT, and maybe the best 2nd round pick of all time, DR. Ah summer...

Their starting lineup would have the edge but our bench would annihilate their's. Even if you only go 8 deep, they're playing 3 bench caliber players while we have an entire roster of starting caliber players, all stars and all time greats.

Golden State has 2 top 6 players plus 3 more all stars who are likely top 20 (maybe not Cousins if he’s not healthy).
Pistons have one guy who was ever a clear top 5 player.

I have more regard for Piston greats, and less certainty as to the 'GOATs of the day.'

Re: Would an all-time Piston team beat the Warriors in *today's* rules/officiating?
Maybe I just have more respect for Isiah than some of you. I think he'd legitimately be in the discussion for MVP in today's league. People forget that at one point he set the record for APG in a season (later beaten by Stockton), during a period of hand-checking and overall much more physical play. I don't think anybody would be able to guard him in todays, much more perimeter player friendly atmosphere.
I also think Dumars is probably being overlooked on the defensive end. I'm not saying you would shut down the W's offense, but a lineup with Joe D., Rodman & Sheed matches up pretty darn well and would put up a better fight than anything our current league has to offer.
They obviously won't have the same outside shooting, but adding G.Hill into the mix as a secondary ball-handler and the team isn't exactly easy to guard. You have 4 legit threats and Rodmans limitless energy setting screens and grabbing offensive rebounds.
But mostly I just think Isiah is being severely undervalued.
