The Tony Parker Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by -Sammy- » Fri Jul 6, 2018 8:17 pm

Please discuss the news of Tony's signing with the Hornets in this thread.

Here, let's share our fondest memories of Tony and talk about what he's meant to our team and fanbase. This is not a thread to trash Parker or to talk about how happy you are that he's gone or how overrated you think he is or anything along that line. You can share those thoughts respectfully in the other thread if you must. As the old axiom goes, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

Watched him grow as a player and turn into a superstar PG and MVP candidate, as far as I'm concerned... he never was a big-time 3PT shooter, but it didn't matter. He was so good everywhere else, and could still hit the three if really needed.

Right there with Iverson as a slasher, finisher, and mid-range and under guy. Right there, for sure. Very efficient.

Loved it when Phoenix would try to guard him with one guy, or not at all... and he'd drain jumpers on them all day because he worked hard to get that shot into his arsenal. 2007, 2008 for real!

Just look at anyone of these montages... incredible numbers : https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Tony+Parker+vs.+Phoenix+Suns

And he honestly did really add a more reliable 3PT shot to his game in latter 2000s when Pop started using him in the corners when people sagged off him -- especially in the playoffs, he hit some daggers and boomers for momentum.

Crafty, jet quick, lots of swag, silent confidence, clutch, was virtually unstoppable in his prime. Underrated and overlooked because he wasn't a personality like Kobe or Iverson or came from an American college.

Thanks for the awesome and fun years, Tony

And last one (so not posting every vid), Dagger G7 game against Paul on the road...

The Playoffs don't care about your Analytics

Wonderful tribute, Ballings7, thank you for posting. You're a bigger person than I can manage to be at the moment. I've posted my feelings in the other thread, so to honour Tony and keep in the spirit of this thread, I co-sign Pop's words, all grace and class:

Always loved his pick and roll with TD and move straight to the elbow for what felt like a guaranteed two points every time.

Thank You, San Antonio
But mostly I just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you to the Spurs organization, from top to bottom, for the most amazing opportunity of my life — and for 17 years of the greatest job on earth. Thank you to Spurs fans, everywhere, for always showing up, always being loud, and always, always having my back. And thank you to the city of San Antonio, for being the only thing that I could ever possibly call it now: home.

The truth is, I know it’s impossible to summarize what my time with the Spurs has meant to me, in a letter like this.

But I guess that’s also the beauty of basketball, and of life in a way. How it can become less about the summary of things — and more about a collection of moments. How you just … become these moments, you know what I mean? All of these relationships, and conversations, and lessons, and decisions. All of these little things that just sort of sneak up on you, and begin to shape you, and eventually, if you’re lucky, even come to define you.

And while I won’t try to define who I’ve become, over these last 17 years, in a single letter … I can say this for sure: I have the Spurs and I have San Antonio to thank for it.

And I will carry that with pride.

I think his 20ppg days are behind him.
But he’ll certainly do well there.
While it sucks that he’s not playing in San Antonio he deserves to finish his career playing. He won’t get the PT he deserves behind Murray and Mills.

He was a spectacular player to watch in his prime and criminally under rated.

Have many many fond memories of TP and he will be sorely missed.

Will be so weird to see him in teal and purple...anything other than black and silver...good luck to him. I'll be watching the rest of his career with interest.
