This lost me at "dressed up like a gay guy". Pathetic. I hate myself right now for pressing Play on this when I knew it wasn't worth the time.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Yep...I was going to go there and decided against. I think if we dug deep enough, we'd find that Rick just completed the hat trick. Pretty sure he's managed to post offensive **** about race, religion and now sexual orientation. You almost have to try to do something like that...

I've only watched the first episode, but I have just started watching Ken Burn's Vietnam. Fascinating so far (and there is still like 12 episodes to go or something!).
Edit - It's on Netflix now by the way.

I know plenty of people who have been there, but I haven't, and therefore have no idea what I am doing. Was thinking fly into Sydney, get a decent vacation rental in some beach town, and do the South Island of NZ. Fascinated by idea of going to Perth, but not sure I want to burn two extra days of vacation traveling to do it.
Thoughts from you Aussies, or anyone else here who has been? Thanks.
Long time lurker on this board from Wellington, NZ. Happy to give some travel tips based on what you’re looking to do.

Thanks! Was looking more South Island because I feel like I should see that. Guess that is high season for tourism, though. Would probably just rent a car or camper van and drive around for a week or so with the family. Open to North Island as well, especially the beaches (which are apparently warmer). In a nutshell, I would do some of the major tourist stuff, but really just more into doing cool stuff and chilling out. As in, if I were in Manhattan, I might go to Central Park or a museum if it isn't too crowded, but no way am I spending a day in a bunch of big lines just to go to the Statue of Liberty with a bunch of other tourists.
On either island, what would YOU recommend for a 7-10 trip?

Watched this a few weeks ago, agreed it's really good. For anyone who likes dark thrillers I'd give it a try (but DON'T watch the trailer first)!

There are amazing places all over the country but the South Island is definitely more spectacular. Especially if you only have a week or so. I'd recommend flying in to Christchurch and getting a car there, then you can drive down to the Queenstown/Te Anau/Wanaka area and see the sights there, drive up the rugged West Coast to see the glaciers and the pancake rocks at Punakaiki and finally hit up the Abel Tasman National Park at the top of the South Island (then you can fly out of Nelson back to Auckland or wherever)
Example route: https://tiny.cc/zrnkwy
As you've mentioned it will be super packed in the major hotspots (Queenstown/Wanaka) with it being the Christmas summer holidays and there are much quieter places you could visit but they are busy for a reason.
As far as cities go, I'm biased obviously but Wellington is the best... think of Portland/San Fran but way smaller with everything within walking distance and an abundance of great coffee/beer/food.
Hope this helps! feel free to message me directly if you need more (I feel like a travel guide...)

I like the track with the Weeknd. I also appreciate the Adidas slander on Sicko.

No way! Where? I literally just moved from Derry, NH down to NC. Currently in PA to visit with my girl. But I used to listen to Toad.
Toad was awesome last night. Not sure why the video is sideways on here. It isn't on my phone.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Jazz but I usually struggle to find anything new that I like as much as 1930s - 1970s. I also don’t usually like Jazz singers at all. However, I heard about Gregory Porter and think he is great:
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Here's an all time great lineup of talent with the added bonus of Billie Holiday and Jimmy Rushing strolling around in the background. An amazing performance.

Coleman Hawkins. Roy Eldridge. Gentle Ban Webster. Gerry Mulligan (A very young Gerry Mulligan). Holy ****! And, with apologies to Duke, the greatest Big Band leader of all-time at the helm. I could listen to Count Basie all day. His sessions with Frank Sinatra produced some of the best music ever.
What year is this from, Gant? Any idea? It swings.

It was from "The Sound of Jazz", a TV program hosted by Jack Smight December 8th, 1957. It's just about as great a jazz lineup as has ever been assembled.
Here's another one featuring many of the same players, and also adding Lester Young:
Here's the whole hour:
