Re: Celtics Schedule Thread (UPDATE: Will play Sixers on Christmas)
I'm like 99% sure Boston will open against Toronto now..there's no way they will put us against Philly on opening day AND Christmas. That would be pathetic and lazy by the schedule makers. Opening day with the full strength Celtics and new look Raps makes sense.

1. Boston would prefer not to play on Christmas if at all possible. This goes back to Red. And the allure of playing on Christmas is starting to wane some for players. But it's still an honor, no matter who you play.
2. Someone else mentioned it, but the league tries to avoid cross-country matchups, unless they are Finals rematches. Better experience for everyone involved.
3. Lastly, I was doing some looking around and came up with this:
Yeah no chance it's in Philly. Wells fargo center has been booked that date for the last decade plus, we always have a big road trip then. https://www.wellsfargocenterphilly.com/events/detail/disney-on-ice

I don't know. The NBA clearly doesn't like to put the Raps on marquee dates. I could see it being us vs Milwaukee or us vs Washington or something.

Could defo be the Wizards. I just don't think it can be the Sixers. That would be trash. Same goes for LA and GSW.

Well the Raptors have Kawhi now, you don't think that would change things?

Obviously not enough to give them a Christmas game

Re: Celtics Schedule Thread (UPDATE: Will play Sixers on Christmas)
I think I got all the teams right with my predictions but not the games. The reason why the Lakers are playing the Warriors is the same reason why the Knicks, even though they suck, are almost always on Christmas: ratings.
Regardless I always enjoy when the celtics play on Christmas.

I spent a long time yesterday watching Celtics' highlights and now I'm in love all over again and also sad because the wait is agonizing.

Its because of the way that ratings are calculated— in brief, the ratings numbers that are quoted by Disney/Turner are US only and dont include the Canadian market. Toronto is a huge draw in Canada, but wont impact the US ratings and the networks are reticent to sacrifice including the bump from a major US market. Its why they pretty much always will get the NBATV series in the playoffs, too.
Accordingly, I dont see the league opening up with Celts v Raps. My prediction would be the Bucks.

Are we sure there are only 4 games? Bos/Phi, LAL/GSW, Utah/POR, NYK/MIL.....aren't there usually 5 games?
I'm honestly shocked that we aren't seeing Westbrook or AD though. NBA likes to market their stars.

Re: Celtics Schedule Thread (UPDATE: Will play Sixers on Christmas and Opening Night)
So, Opening night and Christmas is the Sixers. You'd think that was a heated 7 game playoff series where the Celtics didn't get better in the offseason. Instead of a near sweep, 5 game series where we got back 2 all stars after.

Re: Celtics Schedule Thread (UPDATE: Will play Sixers on Christmas and Opening Night)
I am looking forward to seeing the Sixers on opening night, because it seems like some of the Sixers fanbase has already forgotten about the beatdown that their team received in May. Nothing like a quick reminder on opening night, just to jog their memory.
Facing them on Christmas Day is cool too, since it's like Santa dropping a giant turd into their stockings.

Maybe when the Celtics spank the Sixers this upcoming season the nba might have a clue not to overhype this rivalry yet.

I recently rewatched our playoff wins vs both the Sixers and the Bucks. It was way more fun beating the Sixers because both Embiid and Simmons are arrogant and demonstrative, while Giannis is more quiet and unassuming. It's good to humble those arrogant Sixer pricks and their delusional fan base.

Re: Celtics Schedule Thread (UPDATE: Will play Sixers on Christmas and Opening Night)
I feel sorry for Sixer fans. First they endured Hinkie. They endured Embiid not playing for two years and Simmons for one year. Then they endured the Fultz Fiasco, which persists until this day. How do those poor people feel when they see Tatum out there doing Kobe Bryant-like things? Then they traded away Mikal Bridges (leaving his poor mother in tears, no doubt) to get Zhaire Smith, who promptly breaks his foot. Oh, and Landry Shamet, their other first rounder, misses most of Summer league with an ankle injury.
And finally, after salivating over LeBron, Kawhi and other top free agents, what do the Sixers do in the offseason? Nothing except resign players they already had and helping Denver dump salary by taking on Wilson Chandler.
At least they have Korkmaz, the sharpshooter from Turkey.

(Not the injuries, just the despair from their fans).
