Interesting. He’s from the “Hinkie” Tree. Rockets hired him for a bit so I’m assuming he’s an metrics guy. Excited.

Either the Pistons are crushing it this offseason in the front office hires, or we're paying way too much attention to them because there's nothing else interesting for Pistons fans... but this seems like another good one.

Was VP of Player Personnel under Hinkie in Philly, before that was in Houston with Morey. Interesting lineage.

I preferred bringing in Hinkie himself, but it’s hard to get too upset with anything Stefanaki has done this offseason.

And Hinkie is from the "Morey" Tree.

This is a really good hire for you guys. From what I know of the guy, he's very astute with analytics and more importantly (and this is usually missed) how to translate that into talent evaluation. I imagine that he is being brought in to overhaul your roster, so I would think that you'll be seeing some trades that might not make sense up front, but are being made with the future in mind. I'm guessing that he is someone that they want to consider as the GM, but want to see how he does here before giving him that role.

He will probably target low-dollar/high-upside players while accumulating assets for bigger moves. I'm thinking that he'll be more of a Morey plan (rebuild while competing) rather than Hinkie plan (reboot and wait for next year) because I don't see the League wanting to see the latter again any time soon.

The good news, again, just from what I've heard about the guy, is that he is up to the task. He is highly regarded in the Rockets organization.

He definitely left the Rockets for a reason, and it wasn't just to be one of three assistant GM's under Stefanski. I too believe he's probably next the GM-in-waiting here now with Stefanski just wanting to get a closer personal look-see before handing him the GM keys. Stefanski worked with Hollinger in Memphis, and Hollinger worked with Gupta at ESPN - so that is probably the connection there.

I don't think we'll make trades right away - this team will be given a chance this season under Casey before any big changes are made. Probably close to the trade deadline at the earliest for any drastic trades both to allow the players a fair shot of staying together and for the coaches and new FO to get a better read on what we got here, what works in Casey's schemes and who says and who goes.

I notice a hint of sarcasm....

Admittedly, they messed up this off-season. They, of course, being Gores. No way in the world it should of got to the point where we were something like two months after the season (Not sure, to lazy to Google) and still figuring out if SVG was the guy.

I like the moves they did since (mostly front office), and like the fact that we didn't major commit to some role player. God its sad that it has come to the point, where thats a "win".

I like the direction STEFANSKI is putting this team in, and I guess i like that Gores hasn't intervened too much.

Good point about Casey. That is a factor I did not consider. I can see them giving the team time to identify the players that fit well, and then start looking at players to plug in next to them. I really see a Houston type of rebuild on the fly over a Philly type of bottom out & reboot for your guys.

Good luck, and shake things up over in the East!

This positivity is distressing. Surely Stefanski played a large role in this hire, and his unrelenting career "mediocrity" must cast a shadow over all this? We are saddled with Casey, who lacks imagination and flexibility? How could Gores and the Pistons be doing anything right? Homers, Slappies, and Slurppies! ;-)

He helped develop the trade machine?

So he was a Real GM poster at some point?

do you know why he left the sixers? he stayed on a year after hinkie was fired but left after that. i'm assuming his contract ran out but i wonder if his "special advisor" role with the rockets last season was a step up from his vPBO role with the sixers the three years before.

and then you have to wonder where being one of the assistant GMs here ranks in relations to those two positions.

A tremendous hire by the Team Management. Hope Sachin Gupta will eventually become our GM in the future.

He helped make the ESPN trade machine, not the Realgm Trade Checker.

I've always sorta hoped real NBA people don't ever read these forums.
