This series would've felt so good coming into if we had basically the full bullpen available save for Knebel after yesterday. Peralta is a risk to only go 4 so this is probably where Lyles plays in. Have him pitch 3 innings and pray.

Two upcoming days off (Mon and Thur) will help.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Would of been nice to bring up an SP over the last year, having a guy you can count on to go out there and give you 7-8 good innings is something this team desperately needs. Has an mlb team ever made it through an entire season where an SP has not pitched a complete game?

Kinda just how things are in baseball now. We've got pitchers that could go 7 or 8, but a lot of GMs have decided that utilizing a deep bullpen after 5 or 6 is important.

Example: Yesterday Guerra could've gone another inning or even 2. It wasn't his best game but back in the day, he's got a lead and he was at 92 pitches.

Of course we went with Moustakas for the kill shot and missed and knew we had Jennings who is great against lefty batters queued up for 3 lefties the next inning.

Unless it's Kluber, deGrom, etc. a team thinks it is better bringing in a pitcher that the batters aren't familiar with for situational matchups.

So point being, the only type of guy that we can bring up that "can go 7-8" innings is probably an ace. A Sale, Kluber, etc. Basically every other pitcher is now subject to the game situation. If we were up 10-2 they probably let Guerra go 7 or 8 and save the bullpen.

I don't think that anyone believes that someone like Guerra can't throw 120 pitches at times...it just barely ever comes up anymore.

13 teams have 0 complete games this year
9 have 1 complete game
4 have 2 complete games
3 have 3
1 has 5 (Cleveland) and that's probably a bunch of Kluber/Carrasco/Clevinger

At least the DL move doesn't sound that serious, should get him back in couple weeks. What's the word on the twink Zach Davies?

Hadn't realised how bad Aguilar has been lately. Could use a hot stretch from him.

SD beat the Phillies tonight after playing the Cubs real tight their entire series. The Brewers are certainly in a funk since that pre AS week. BUT, I also think they can reclaim a 15-20 game above .500 mark if they get back to solid relief pitching. They can’t afford to blow late leads and, for the most part, they haven’t done so for the majority of the season.

This all being said, we need more from Couns in the decision-making department. And, Stearns needs to rise to that next level. I feel they’ve hit the same plateau seen on the diamond.
