OT: Basketball shoes (Kids these days...)

Post#1 » by LukasBMW » Fri Aug 10, 2018 11:54 pm

I hate shopping, so if I find something I like...I buy it in bulk.

In 2009, the Postman delivered 10 pairs of Nike AFI's to my front door. He must have thought I was Nelly. But I knew that particular shoe was discontinued and it was the perfect all around gym show. Comfortable enough to walk in, flexible enough for weight lifting at the gym, and also had just enough support for pickup basketball.

Alas almost 10 years later, all 10 pairs have been destroyed and I needed to find something else.

First stop: Foot locker. WTF? They have every re-release of every Jordan sneaker EVER made and about 3 other basketball shoes...and NOTHING else! "Footlocker" should change their name to "Vintage Air Jordan shoes 4 fanboys + woman's sneakers."

Next stop: DSW. They had a better damn selection then footlocker and I did find a few reasonably priced options, but nothing blew me away.

Final stop: Dick's sporting goods. They had the best selection, but here is where it get's interesting:

-The Nike Kobe Mamba rage caught my eye, but when I tried it on, it was too damn skinny. I have wide feet. I wasn't too upset because I wasn't sure I could stomach buying Kobe shoes anyway as a Suns fan.

-The Nike Lebron looked sharp but I wasn't about to drop $150.00 on a pair of shoes. I also wasn't thrilled with the idea of supporting that weak hearted cry baby.

-The Adidas Jame Harden shoe looked decent. I'm not a huge fan of the beard BUT at least he was a fellow Sun Devil! I can rock these. ...or not. They just were not comfortable. They felt cheap and had no cushion to them. Adidas still has a long way to go to catch Nike.

I tried on a few more generic Nike's and at $99-$120, I was not impressed. No ankle support and bad lace designs that will just let the laces pull through.

No wonder why basketball players keep getting hurt. The shoes these days are GARBAGE!

Nike still makes GREAT running shows. I know because I just bought a pair. I was amazed at how light and comfortable they were.

How come all the basketball shoes suck?

(I ended up buying a pair of Nike KD Trey 5's. On sale at $79.00. It's a little higher then I wanted, but it was the only shoe that fit great, offered support, was comfortable, and seemed flexible enough for walking, weight lifting, and pickup basketball.)

I'm worried about Ayton and his Pumas.

I have those shoes, mine are Nike KD Trey 5 V, and are pretty good to play basketball. Really really comfortable.

Great decision, I think that you are gonna like them a lot.

Actually, I just double checked. Nike KD Trey 5V it is. We are rocking the same shoe. KD may be a cupcake, but his kicks are legit.

Here you can find performance reviews of tons of basketball sneakers to help you decide what would be better for you:

Off the top of my head I can give you a couple of options that will not brake your wallet too much and are supposedly good performers:

Haven't tried them myself as with my broken knees Lebron 10 is the only shoe I am able to shoot hoops in.
Prior to that I played for years in the original Hyperdunk (08), which was rereleased a year or two ago and perhaps not impossible to still find at a big discount.
