And yes, too bad that SD chased off Nate and Popper :D

not only did i not chase them off but you guys ready every single word of my posts. especially you. why you doth protest so much is silly. and sad.

oh but you're so clearly such a well educated and articulate poster. how can we not help but read every single word of your posts? everything you type just drips with knowledge and sense. you are, after all, so successful, so well-informed, and so respected.

please, tell us more about how much you want the redistribution of wealth and yet how lazy and ill-deserving these welfare gangbanging drug addicts are of your tax dollars. it's a concept that i have not yet grasped because my net worth is not $8 million dollars yet because I'm a lazy, stupid, and over-entitled millennial.

I actually did try to read your posts - but they just rambled on and on and on with no point (or if/when there are point(s) they are buried in the verbosity). And you know this... and I think it is very much intentional. Let's just agree to ignore each other.

We're not in Belarus, and no one is making fun of you, so don't be such a triggered snowflake if you're joining in the fray.

Shooting snow I guess is a reference to cocaine addiction. Steer clear I say, it's no good.

All countries including the US have some socialist policies! Its just a matter of who this socialism benefits that’s at issue. There is Populist Socialism, the kind that you say doesn’t work. Then there is Corporate Socialism, which is the US model, supported by establishment Democrats and Republicans alike.

Take the US for example. The entire high tech computer industry was subsidized by citizen tax dollars. NASA spent billions of public money on the the space program to develop the modern computer. That government funded research was then privatized, creating some of the richest corporations and individuals in history. The internet was a defense department funded project. Again, allowed to be privatized for profit. The highways system is a massive subsidy to auto manufacturers and the oil industry. How about the airline industry? Think about how many commercial pilots received their “free” training in the air force. Boeing and other aircraft manufacturers probably wouldn’t exist without the Department of Defense. Lots of freebies there! Thats why they call it the “Free Market”. There are countless other examples. In fact, the US government is by far the largest single employer in the US. Without socialism of some sort, countries as we know them would not exist. 8-)

Also to say populist Socialism has never worked is simply wrong. There are numerous countries including Denmark, Ireland, Sweeden, and others that by some metrics are arguably doing better than the US. Denmark’s health care system is considered the envy of the world by some, with everyone covered for free at a cost per capita less than the US. Norway has free college education. The Norweigan government also owns more state-owned enterprises (and they're worth 87% of GDP) than Venezuela! Indeed, it is considerably more socialist than supposedly-communist China, where only 31 percent of national wealth is owned by the state. Venezuela’s problem should not be linked to the existence of a national oil company, extensive social programs, or even food subsidies; after all, Norway enjoys all these economic artifacts, and successfully avoids the Resource Curse. Venezuela’s current problems can be traced back to its over-reliance on oil and short-sighted fiscal policies—and these problems can be traced farther back in Venezuela’s history.

Are their taxes higher? Maybe, but the public actually gets something for their money other than expensive missiles, airplanes, and corporate bailouts.

Good thread

Read on Twitter

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1028638868457828352.html

This cycle Democratic voters are electing mostly centrists with a smattering of leftists. What matters far more than these labels, which are basically about how much to spend on social welfare, is whether people broadly are seeing the threat of corporate concentration.

Just by watching hearings in Congress, it isn't really the left interested in the details of corporate power. There are some progressives who are there, but it's mostly the GOP, random centrists, and a few progressives who are trying to figure out how to structure commerce.

Small pharmacists have a lot of GOP support. Uber-centrist @MarkWarner has the boldest and most interesting views on Facebook/Google/Amazon. @RoKhanna and @SenWarren are doing important work on defense contract monopolies. And @SenWarren worked w/the GOP on hearing aid cartels.

Meanwhile Barbara Lee and Nancy Pelosi are nowhere on these questions, and Maxine Waters is helping deregulate banks. I like Waters and Lee very much. But the labels right now do not reflect that much that is meaningful, as the ideological environment is in flux.

There's a Democratic blind spot, and it's a huge one, and it wrecks the value of any labeling. Democrats simply cannot acknowledge that Obama both had agency and made singularly bad choices that hurt our society. Everything but that is open for debate. But that is what matters.

The blindspot is worldwide. Center-left parties, even in nation's with much stronger safety nets and universal health care, have collapsed everywhere. It's why the left-wing challenge in the U.S., which is based on more social safety net spending, isn't the answer.

To put it more pungently, no one argues that the problem with Weimar Germany's political order can be traced to its lack of health care options, yet that seems to be the diagnosis on the left today on why the world is trending quasi-fascist.
Eric Holder in 2016 was helping put the Democratic platform together. He is musing on running for President. That he can put this forward seriously without any actual pushback shows that there is no real integrity in the Democratic Party yet. Anywhere. Not on the left or right.

This is catastrophic for any actual discussion. Instead of saying the obvious, which is that Obamacare sucks because hospitals and drug companies are stealing, Democrats have to futz around with defending ACA or single payer discussions. So out of touch with actual experience.

Ask any Democrat running for office about the bailouts and they will largely have no idea what happened and why. Ask them about most areas of commerce and they will know very little. And if they do know something, they don't think it's a political topic.

The basic misdiagnosis is that the Republicans or the white working or Putin or whoever else are the problem. They are not. The problem is that Democrats do not see that the primary obstacles to liberty are financial concentrations of power.

This is Marxizt approach.
