Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
Durkin was placed on leave so it's only a matter of time. But to say he killed McNair while running him on a conditioning test on an 8- degree day is a big much. The response however was tragic because they apparently waited an hour to call 911 when he a 106 temp and should have put him in an ice bath. That's why the trainer and strength coach are gone. I think some of that other stuff about yelling at players is everybody jumping on Durkin. That culture, the macho culture where they want you to play hurt or workout sick or hurt, that shi-t wasn't invented by D.J. Durkin. You have to change just about every program in that case but the response is what will those responsible fired and if Durkin hired several of those guys, he's also culpable.

The last sentence in the tweet and the letter both indicate that Evans has already made up his mind that Durkin is gone.

Durkin is a figurehead. I didn't say he did it. He is the coach. Just like in the military the guy in charge takes the hit.80sballboy wrote:Durkin was placed on leave so it's only a matter of time. The trainer and the strength coach are gone. Sounds like that was horrific what they did. I think the whole coaching staff ultimately is gone just for being associated with the others.
FYI I tweeted to DJ Durkin and told him I was praying for him months ago. I remember when Lefty Driesell had to endure the deaths of Owen Brown, Chris Patton, and later Leonard Bias.
"They" I was referring to is the conditioning coach and whatever coach was on the field yelling and having players drag McNair on the tenth sprint. Sounds like gross negligence.

DJ Durkin is gone. I don't even think it's his fault.

I think Wallace Loh might be next. A lot of the parents are now coming to Durkin's defense. Some people say that Heather Dinich had an ax to grind with Maryland because Fridge (total a-hole) treated her like crap. By just going to the Maryland players that were transferring and were upset with Durkin, makes the article appear biased. I don't know. I don't love Durkin but I wish Maryland waited a day or two to investigate. Then again, they've been waiting months to investigate the McNair death. No wonder nobody wanted the AD job.

The timeline is not one of proactive or urgent action. Sounds like they either were not worried or else, they deeply covered this up. Either response doesn't look feasible.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
The smartest course of action is to throw two or three coaches to the wolves. I think they should emphasize DJ Durkin wasn't present.
DJ is a young man. Just 40 years old.
Here's what should happen:
1. Independently, canvas the players to learn WHO THEY THINK is at fault.
2. If the consensus of players fault the strength coach and only those UMCP staff in proximity that day; stick by Durkin. Clean house and blame medical for not following heat stress protocol(s).
3. Do damage control. Players from all sides should be able to articulate in civil, brief statements what transpired.
Young, insensitive, ignorant/mean-spirited strength coach and complicit training staff drove a kid to die. Those who could have stopped it didn't intervene. Lessons are being learned.
There will be 100% accountability. This process will be 100% transparent.
The best damage control possible is candor and to circumvent the agenda of sensationalizing money-grab, hatred-stoking attorney who is TRYING TO introduces outright lies in order to get paid.
4. Attack the credibility of the attorney by having the head coach answer questions without a lawyer.
Best case: healing. Moving past fat shaming. Elimination of really stupid practices. (350 pound lineman running 10-100 yard sprints is ludicrous! Dragging a tired player, his tired and angry teammates joining the hazing is CRIMINAL. Rick Court needs to be criminally charged.
I don't see any way Durkin coaches again; but, I feel like he's a victim.

Well, it seems to me there are 2 issues going on here - and at least right now - MD's addressing only one of them - maybe hoping the other goes away. One issue is obviously who's at fault with DJ's death. And Loh has made it clear that MD's position is that it's not the coaches' faults; it's the athletic trainers.
But the second issue is the so-called "toxic atmosphere" with the football program addressed in the SI article. Part of the reason for DJ's death was the physical exhaustion that led to the heat stroke. I'm not clear if they're investigating that now or not. I can't imagine Durkin stays, so what they might say is that he oversees the entire football program, so he is in effect in charge of the athletic trainers. Therefore, he is at fault, and the rest of the coaching staff is safe.

The toxic culture narrative is BS.

I tend to agree. I think it's more than likely that the "toxic environment" thing would never have come up if not for the tragedy. Durkin has a very good reputation, and all of this seems to have come about from disgruntled ex-players that weren't cut out for Big 10 football. And I haven't heard any evidence that the "toxic environment" had anything to do with the tragedy. Hopefully, that's part of the investigation.

Saw this today and while it's not earth-shattering news, he's probably a lot better than Schneider Herard. We could have used a bigger guy, but he's basically Otto Porter's size. At 6-7, 205 with length and athletic ability. Also forgot about 6-7 Trace Ramsey.

Funny you should mention Otto, because he was the first guy I thought of to compare Lindo to in the short highlight video I saw of him. Obviously, I'm not going to say he's the next Otto based on just that, but I was impressed considering he's just 17.
