Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Its only a problem if he can't take a walk. I doubt he is as good as Bowden suggests but a 27% k rate is only a small part of the story when he is 1st among qualified hitters in his league in BB% and third in BB:K.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Absolutely, his walk rate is very good. But no, it's still a problem even if he can take a walk; witness Yoan Moncada. Biggio can be a decent player with a high K rate, but he'd still benefit from facing AAAA breaking stuff before throwing him into the major league side, or he could have a very rough first season.

Hector Perez 7K's and no walks tonight. A minor miracle it would seem.

Pillar isn't a very good defensive center fielder anymore, and he's only going to get worse from here.
that will be terrible, without the defense Pillar will have no trade value.

Samad Taylor is quietly having a solid three months, though in fits and starts. OPS around .760 from June on, 41:29 K:BB. Even if you discount the stolen bases (his rate isn't good), there's still a fair bit to like about the bat.

This is also the first year he's started stealing bases, so I'm sure he's pretty raw in that regard.

Also there is a team goal of some kind, covering Taylor, Pruitt and Young - apparently their base coach is pushing to reach a collective target, probably to incite them to run as much as possible.

Not promising...

976: Is Anthony Alford going to hit enough for an everyday CF role?
2:49
Eric A Longenhagen: Sinking like a stone, last scout I spoke with on him said the bat speed isn’t there right now.

Could be; god knows he has had his share of injuries. Could also be mechanical.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Alford struck out 55 times in 324 MILB PA in 2017. Most of those PA were in AA.
In 2018, it's 107 Ks to 371 PA.
I'd hoped he turned a corner last year but he's taken a huge step back this year. I think there must be some sort of health issue at play. That or they had him make some changes to his approach, but that wouldn't make sense given his 2017.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Eric Pardinho carried a perfect game into the 7th tonight. Finished with 7 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 6 K.
The kid is way too good for rookie ball. It should be interesting to see where they start him in the spring.

Given that we started him in advanced rookie, not the complex league, I'd definitely expect him to be in Lansing.
Biggio hit another two homers. Bet scouts never expected to write "Jack Cust, only a second baseman" as a comp.

Isn’t the hamate bone injury he suffered, known to sap your power for a year or two?

As Bowden mentioned, Biggio may have that special "it" that comes from intensity plus decent if not fantastic natural ability. His second homer was a two-out walkoff on a 3-0 pitch. Takes some balls in AA to swing at a 3-0 pitch with the game tied in B9, and with a couple of good hitters - or at least somewhat hot ones as Max Pentecost has had a good 3-4 weeks at the plate.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
I'm not really sure that I buy special "it" that comes from preternatural intensity, though. It's the Ecksteinian "gritty gamer" thing that basically seems to only get applied to white infielders who don't run too fast.

I don't know if skin colour is the reason it gets applied to them as much as there are just so many more slow-footed white infielders.

I can only pray we ever get to see a moment as beautiful as this from Biggio
