Who wants to play this one?

Some aren't in the draft that's currently going so do you want to play this one.

3 round tournament

1st round, 00s-10s. Top 8 advance
2nd round, 80-90s. Top 4 advance
Final round, 60s-70s. With only 4 teams remaining this should make up for smaller talent pool in this era
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

When the Stats Leaders playoffs finally ends, I will start a thread for another draft.

This one sounds pretty tedious, tbh.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Not as much as the Scavenger one that was just done.

It shouldn't be too hard. Creates a real mix of teams and not the usual players picked.

Anybody interested in revisiting the 3 degrees of franchise concept?

I was thinking of raising the difficulty level by forcing you to actually choose a season from the franchise you use to link a player. So for example, if you start with Hakeem and then want to link Drexler or Barkley through the Rockets, you have to also use a Rockets season for them.

So many stipulations is too convoluted for me, that's why I backed off the stats leader draft as well

That'd make a different draft with not the usual players getting picked. Most drafts are very similar but this one could be quite different.

To me the only differences worth talking about are the two All-Star/All-NBA players and the three 20 ppg players. I actually like the thought process there, as I think what's missing from a lot of these games is the challenge of really building around a couple of stars as opposed to just cramming as much talent as possible into a team. (Personally I would make it two All-NBA players but three All-Stars which seems realistic enough.)

I just don't see the need for all the other restrictions though. None of that stuff really does anything towards the goal of building a "normal" team. Limiting the number of stars accomplishes that objective just fine by itself.

It mixes things up and makes those involved have to think a little more about who they pick and picking players from each decade takes away much of the bias towards modern day players.

Each season selected must involve more FGA than the season selected with the previous pick, i.e. the opposite of the current game?

Actually, that is the current game.

But I know what you meant and I like the idea of doing it opposite.

Wacky idea:
Your next pick must have been born in the same state as, or a state adjacent to the state in which your last pick was born, as listed on basketball-reference.com.

What about a three degree game where the criteria for connections are different for each round? For example, first round is played together on the same team, second is played against each other in a playoff series, third is same height, etc.

I mentioned this a bit ago but I think the challenge increases if each team can only use a state once.

I think the opposite of what we're doing is a logical follow up if you want to kick that off.

I don't have a strong preference but want to keep playing - have more time right now.

Is the literal opposite of the current game really a big challenge? Seems like it would be fairly straightforward.

Still interested in this game:

Dr Positivity wrote:
Fadeaway_J wrote:OK, so this is a twist I was close to proposing for the current game, but it could also work in a regular eight-round draft.

Basically the players would again be divided into tiers, but each tier would correspond to the highest level of accolade each player achieved over the course of their career. I'd rank them as follows:

1. MVP
2. All-NBA First Team
3. All-NBA Second Team
4. All-NBA Third Team
5. All-Star

The difference would be that you have to pick a season corresponding to each accolade. So if your player won an MVP, you have to use that season (or one of those seasons). If he made All-NBA First Team at an any time, you can't drop down to a Second Team year to save FGA. And so on down the line. You could pick any number of players from each tier, as well as players who never achieved any of those accolades and wouldn't be subject to any restrictions on the season chosen.

Just an example, using my team in the Batman/Robin game, I'd be forced to select:

- D-Rob's MVP season (1994-95)
- Pierce's All-NBA Second Team season (2008-09)
- Mason's All-NBA Third Team season (1996-97)

The whole idea is that if you pick Player X in the MVP tier for example, you also have to pay an MVP price. This obviously won't impact everyone, but suddenly the calculus changes for guys like D-Rob, Hakeem, and Barkley whose MVP seasons are usually avoided to save FGA, or someone like Iguodala who is often used as a bench player.

I would play, but it is pretty similar to a peak WS draft, since that correlates well to a players highest accolade year.

How about being forced to draft one of and pay that accolade's price for MVP, All-NBA 1st team, All-NBA 2nd team and All-NBA 3rd team/All-star, and the other four players must be non all-stars?
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change
