RJ Barrett
I was skeptical of him... but damn I don’t remember the last wing prospects to have such a compelete game at such a young age. He really does look like James Harden out there.
What are your thoughts on his game?

Re: RJ Barrett
Very few flaws as you said. He's not an elite athlete, a tier below freaks like Little and obviously Zion, but he doesn't need to be that level of athlete to be a star. He's a super finisher, good size, can handle and pass, and I believe a really strong shooter off the catch. His shooting versatility is about the only swing skill I can imagine could limit his offensive upside really, be nice to see him develop some off the dribble in that regard.
He's a high motor player, plays with an edge and has good defensive instincts.
I would have him in that top tier with Zion and Little right now. How to order those 3 is anyone's guess at this point. But yeah, big fan, and I feel like the highest floor out of those 3.

Barrett reminds me of Harrison Barnes or Justise Winslow in college. He is going to need to fix his shooting as the year goes on.

His shooting needs to be improved but he is nothing like those guys, he has things of Manu, Butler and DeMar in his game

Yes, Manu is great comparisons, but no one sees it, because, you know...

Manu was an above average 3pt shooter and a dominate free throw shooter through out his career. These are two areas that Barrett still needs to work on alot.

Manu was great shooter. most 18 year olds have sub par shooting, thats one skill that improves most consistently with age. I would say Barrett is on pace to be a good shooter, not worried about that at all.

Re: RJ Barrett
was pretty clear after this game against team usa that he was going to be a top pick in any draft. 38 pts, 13 reb, 5 ast against team usa as a guard / wing was unheard of.
but surely has to work on his shot to warrant the harden and manu comparisons. He looked like more of a finisher playing with the big boys

So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Reminds me of Derozan..Very solid not flashy..probably not ever gonna be the best player on a contender but there’s not many of those guys.

Seems a step slow compared to other stars I’ve watched at the same age. Should still be really really good but I think it’s a limiting factor

Re: RJ Barrett
For what it's worth RJ is a more dynamic athlete than Manu or Harden. Though both seemed smoother on the court than him, despite him seeming to have the craftiness & maturity/polish to his game that has made them so successful. I'm always fascinated by these crafty kids that seem to have that "old-man game" as Bill Simmons would put it, before even hitting the NBA.

Hart: Run around like an idiot during the game and f*** s*** up!

Re: RJ Barrett
RJ is a hard guy to make a comparison to. I compared him to Dwayne Wade which I don’t think is the best comparison.
Some compare him to Michael Redd, I think Redd was a better shooter and Barrett the more explosive athlete and better creator.
He is very creative, elusive and slippery. I don’t think he is a herky jerky athlete quite like Manu, but can see the comparison to a certain extent. He is a hard guy to peg.
Of the Little, Reddish, Zion, Barrett group, I think he is the most sure thing, but also think he is the closest to his ceiling.

This is just wrong. Klay, Harden, Booker, Curry, Durant, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Bennett, Michael Beasley, just to name a few, were already good to elite shooters at age 17, 18.
Gerald Wallace is the only wing I can think of who was a bad shooter in college but became a semi-decent shooter in the NBA.

What? Jimmy Butler in his 3 years of college made only 36 3s. His senior year he made 20 on a 34% clip. And when he was 18 years old as a freshman, Butler didnt make a single 3pt shot in the 700 minutes that he played. Bennett was a solid shooter but in no way should his name be in the same sentence as the other guys you mentioned.
Kawhi as an 18 year old freshman shot 20% from 3 and 29% his sophomore year. Kawhi now is a deadly shooter.

The more I watch RJ Barrett now the more he reminds me of Harrison Barns or Tyreke Evans when they were in UNC and Memphis. Seems to already have an NBA body even though he is only a freshmen. Physically he imposes his will on less athletic opponents and dominates the game, but like Tyreke he seems to have a broken jump shot with an awkward release and unrefined form.

I'm less impressed with him the more I see him. He's not an elite athlete and seems to dominate based purely on volume. He's a chucker that's for sure. He's skilled and will beat up on college players but I don't think it will translate to the pros as much. Upside DeRozan which isn't bad at all.
