Pacers on the Trade and Transaction Board...

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Thu Aug 16, 2018 10:23 pm

Anyone notice how our Pacers are not getting a lot of discussion on the T&T? When one of the trade prognosticators does forge some kind of deal including the Pacers it's usually us in a 3 or 4 way deal helping some team do something. I've seen a few of those deals with us getting Kevin Love for Sabonis, Thad and Cory some even having us sending a #1 pick! Where is that puking Smilie when you need it?

I'd say the lack of discussion is because unlike a lot of teams the Pacers are pretty well set. Other teams still have gaping holes or over paid, under performing players and failed draft picks on their rosters that they want to dump or holes to fill. We don't.

I don't know about you guys but I'm ready for the season. We've go 2 months until the games are back. Seems like a 1000 years right now. :eek2: :eek1:

Some of it ha sgot to do with the Pacers just not being a very "popular" franchise. We don't get a lot of buzz for big name FAs or big trades, and I haven't seen any rumors about forming a superteam or anything like that here. Just not a glitzy, high profile type of team.

I'm super glad we don't have any major holes, don't get me wrong, but there are also a few places we could improve. If this team wasn't doing solid roster construction and depending on the development of our young guys, though, we would probably be a laughing stock of the NBA in New Orleans or Sacramento type of way. Cuz this team can't build much on trade buzz or star power or anything like that the way some others can.

Pacers has always been the underdog team the past 25 years or so

There's always another team in their conference that was the heavily favoured team, and Pacers no matter how good they are have always been expected by people to know their place - give the favoured team a good fight, be a good sport, and ultimately roll over and lose when they are supposed to lose

Even now Vic is underrated as heck. He's legitimately the best SG in the East, and perhaps top 5 in the league, and yet you don't see his name pop up in many discussions. Even if it does, it's usually along the lines of "oh yea Oladipo is good, but..."

I remember a while back there was a thread about which team has the best bench

To me Pacers with CoJo, Evans, McDermott, KoQ, Sabonis, has got to be in the top 5 - that lineup is essentially a better version of last season's Grizzlies that won 22 games

I'd put the lack of Trade talk about us to Pacer fans not originating threads because we know that the odds of Pritchard doing anything now are slim. he's already filled our biggest holes with Tyreke and Doug not to mention KOQ, Holiday, and Alize. it would be a major breach of trust with the players to shop Vic, DC, Myles, Sabonis, Bogie, Thad, or CoJo after saying they'd earned another shot and two of them exercised options to stay.

There are a couple reasons imo outside of us just being under the radar and few Pacers fans frequenting the board:

- There are zero rumblings about issues, players being on the block, etc. The only reason you see so many KAT/Butler/Wiggins (as an example) trades is due to those kind of reports, true or not. We don't have any of those out there right now.
- Our vets are expiring and fans of other teams don't tend to value them more than that, but are aware their valuable to us.
- Everyone knows Vic isn't going anywhere at all.
- I suspect many believe (rightfully so in may cases) that many of our players overachieved last year and don't want the risk of that being true

I think we could use one more player in either a 2/3 or 3/4 role, but I think it’d come via a vet minimum signing. In terms of rotation players, we’re really set and don’t require trades or major moves.

I'm with you on not expecting a trade. I think Sumner will get a shot at the extra 2 while Alize will get a shot at the extra 3/4. I'm unsure whether they see KOQ as a 4, a 5. whichever he is, the last roster spot could be filled with the position he is not or left open if he's serviceable at both.

another reason for a quiet board is that Andrew Luck has many of our attentions.

I was counting Alize already. Somner could serve the 1/2 role, but then we would look for another 2way, unless Shumate would take that.

I'm pretty happy with the roster right now and I just can't wait for the season to begin.
