OK. Here is a simple one.

Since 1949-50, the first year of the NBA (replacing the BAA), only eight Celtics have made first-team all-NBA.

Who are they?

Bonus point extra credit follow-up. If one adds in the BAA years another Celtic went first-team all-NBA in 1948. Who was he?

Easy one...Cousy 10 years straight, Bird 9 years before Achilles. Sharman 4 times formed all-Celtics first team backcourt with Cousy. Havlicek also 4 times. Russell because of Wilt only 3 times, same as a man who we traded for Russell, Ed Macauley. In 86/87 McHale and Bird occupied forward spots, and in a first season as a Celtic, KG made it.

In Celtics second season first teamer was center Big Ed Sadowski.

And here are players who played for Celtics, and were all-NBA first team with another team...Old Bones McKinney, Bill Walton, Bob McAdoo, Dennis Johnson and Dominique Wilkins once, Dave Bing, Pistol Pete Maravich and Gary Payton twice and Paul Westphal three times. And of course Shaq 8 times

I was surprised that Nelson scored 40 in a game, and shocked that he had 22 rbs...

As for stats...forget realgm...basketball.reference is all you need...

Guessing, with a strong emphasis on the era when guys graduated college:

6) M McCauley?
7) O O'Neal
8) R Russell
9) S Silas (future college coach Sanders is another obvious guess)

In a similar vein, two Celtics won the Wooden Award for best college player of the year; who were they?

Please note that the award was first given in 1977.

Hint: They each played for the Celtics for more years than Kevin Garnett did. :)

Edit: See below. "Two" was much too low a number.

It's not easy...you have "game finder" and then its hard work...i made a list of all Celtics players in history who scored at least 15 points in a game once (275 players), who took at least 15 rebounds in a game once (63 players) and who had at least 10 assist in a game (58 player)...blocks, steals and 3fgm next...

Obvisous anwers are Larry Bird (Indiana State) and Danny Ainge (Brigham Young). But its not full list. Award also won short time Celtics Calbert Cheaney (Indiana University, who Pitino signed as a FA when traded Ron Mercer to Nuggets), all-star playmaker Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph, part of Rondo-Crowder trade) and fan favorite Evan Turner (Ohio State)

Pistol Pete is correct, so that is 6/10.
Hints for other four:
-one is only player who won ring as a Laker and a Celtics
-one was collague teammate of one of ours biggest legends
-one came to Celtics in one March after being waived by previous team
-one bassicaly eat his way out of the league

One L is Clyde Lovellete. I know he was a college stud. And he played for the Mikan era Lakers too.

so that leaves another L, and M and an S.

I think it must be Raef LaFrentz, though I am not sure he would have been a two-time all-American. He was Paul's teammate.

For the M I would say Marbury or maybe Troy Murphy. I will go with Marbury. Both joined the team mid-season I think.

An S who ate his way out of the league? Oh my God, Sullinger.

Kentucky 1996 team

Antoine Walker
Waltah
Ron Mercer
Wayne Turner
Tony Delk

Edit: Rick Pitino was a fool for actually thinking Wayne Turner was a legitimate NBA player.

Might even raise that number to 6 players if we count summer league. Ben Wallace tried out for us, but of course ML Carr had him trying out as a 2/3.

Return to Boston Celtics
