Re: OT - Media - Movies, TV, Music, Books, Gaming
My buddy in the D told me a story about when he started the basketball stuff right out of college, was covering the Nike All-American Camp in Indy. He’d work all day, then go out at night, so by the last day had run out of clothes and threw on a t-shirt he avoided, Morehouse Basketball, which he owned because somewhat obscure and a nice-looking Nike shirt, but didn't want to wear while working unless pressed.
On an elevator, a guy thanked him for "all you all do for the brothers."
For some reason he answered … "you're welcome."
Then he asked if my buddy knew so and so, his cousin who was a ref in Atlanta.
"Oh, yeah … he calls a fair game."

Nash finger rolls. Nash getting burned on defense; just stick out his arm!! The soccer-oop!
But the best part is the nash "rib-grab". This dude turned it into a nipple rub!! not sure if intentional but it looks ridiculous.
This is the best video Ive seen in like a year. True Suns ish right here.
EDIT: and Nash dribbling back and forth and around under the basket like 10 times before kicking to diving Amare for a dunk. Classic!
Plus the dude who plays Amare got the facial expressions perfect. Loved it.

At the 1:50 mark, Amare bends WAY back to create space. Then adjusts his goggles. Whoever choreographed this is my hero.

Re: OT - Media - Movies, TV, Music, Books, Gaming
Hey guys just wanna say I'll probably be less active since Im now going to grad school but nevertheless am just as excited to see the bright future of this team unfold as my own does.
That being said, I've sort of come face to face with some mental health issues that I may have never tackled (anxiety) but rather simply buried and now they're coming back up to the surface since my life has been changing so dramatically so quickly (see above).
Although I've always been an anxious person, I don't think I've ever experienced an anxiety attack before, but I'm fairly sure I've had two mild ones the past two weeks. So I want to thank Kevin Love, DeMar DeRozan and the other players, fans and coaches for reaching out and creating an environment where we can feel safe in talking about stuff like that. It's a little different unfortunately since I now live in a place where I'm only just beginning to meet new people and new friends, so the opportunities aren't necessarily quite there yet for me to talk in person about it, but for now this will do. And my new Uni has been good about letting us know we can talk to counselors on campus, which I will take advantage of.
Thanks.

It was very brave of you to check in with board about your experiences. Stick with your healthy patterns and seek advice from those you trust. You can do this! I’m happy for you n_n.

I don't know your situation and it's probably different to mine but I thought I'd give my $0.02. I think we're similar in that I've always been a bit of an anxious person too which I think came from my mum. My mum is a very anxious person, it's evident when we go on holidays and she stresses about the smallest thing. She would be anxious even after having a small conversation with a stranger and I can hear her repeating under her breath the exact same thing she just spoke.
Perhaps my anxiety isn't to the point where I have attacks (I don't believe I've experienced one) but I'm slowly becoming more confident and being less anxious in situations where I used to be very anxious. Even now when I'm heading into the office kitchen and there's small talk opportunities with people I'm not close to, I get a little anxious but as opposed to the past where I wouldn't even engage with someone other than "hey", I'd engage with these people now. I can't speak for you but for me, it very much required a change in mindset.
The start of my change in mindset began when I had broken up with my ex which I was blind sided by and I didn't get the promotion I thought I was going to get and that got me to reevaluate everything about myself. My ex gave me some feedback as well which I appreciated. After some self-reflection, I realised that the root of a lot of my anxiety and reluctance to try new things was rooted in my low self-confidence, high level of self-criticism and caring to much about what people thought about me even though they probably didn't care. Since then I've forced myself to be more open even to my friends (esp about my issues which I had kept to myself), I started jiu-jitsu which was something I've thought about doing for a decade but never had the push to do it and I'm more focused on my personal development than ever before. For me, I felt like I mostly have my **** together, I do fairly well for myself because of that I was so comfortable with my issues and never had the kick in the butt to do anything about it until then. But this focus on improving myself from a mental, physical, professional and overall well-being standpoint has been great and has shown me, I can and should continue to improve as a person.
I don't know if any of this helps but I think it's good to know that there are people who are more or less in the same boat as you. Some of these people have completely overcome their social anxiety, others haven't but are working on it and others haven't done anything to get help. I'm in that second group and you speaking with your issues with a counselor puts you in that second group with me. Just the fact that you're in a place where you have the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and talk to someone like a counselor who's there to talk about these types of issues is a fantastic situation to be in. Keep it going

Wow no kidding. I also have a mother and father that whilst they may not necessarily be socially anxious, but seem to stress over very small things. I too am also very critical of myself and worry far too much about what others think of me, even when I try to ignore it. Just something as simple as saying hi often was a big task for me (like you) and I think I've also improved somewhat well over the past few months, and I was even able to make some friends already and get a good group together. I also have a good physical routine which I'm just getting back into after two-three weeks break, which I like and has given me confidence (it's based around ninja warrior, lots of fun, feels like my passion).
But having moved locations far away from home, that was a big change and I also feel like there's so much pressure from my family to do well in grad school. And when I think about it, graduating here would be a good chance to secure my future financially and is an opportunity so many people would love to have - and I do appreciate it. And yet, a lot of the time I just feel so much pressure to even do assignments, do literally everything correctly on the first try, pass the class and also from comparing myself to other classmates (this is that low confidence thing you've been talking about). At some point I just want someone from my family to tell me it's ok to fail at this instead of telling me I'm going to do it well, because I feel like saying that is just heaping expectations on me that I've never really had to deal with before in my life.
And yes it's good to know though that there are other people on the board who have gone through or are going through the same experiences and are willing to share it. Thank you very much for your letting me know your experience and how you're working on it to improve.

Very much OT but I was listening to Neil DeGrasse Tyson on the Joe Rogan podcast and he mentioned something that he recently found out and it was something I didn't realise either. The width of the basketball hoop is a marginally less than the width of two basketballs. I always felt it was much smaller.
Standard basketball diameter is 9.55in and the diameter of the hoop is 18in

In a way that may make it seem bigger than it is (or rather, make it seem it should be even easier to make shots) but being that shots are always going in at an angle.
It does seem odd though. It seems like if the width of two basketballs side by side is only a little more than one inch wider than the hoop, that they would easily both sit within the hoop without falling through, but that doesn't seem like you could set them up there.

That's very true. Also a good reason why the best shooters always have great arc. But yeah, definitely seems like the hoop would be like 1.3-1.5 basketballs at most. I feel like I've seen two basketball being stuck on top of the hoop before but that could just be the Mandela effect
