Washington Mystics 2018 Playoffs

Post#1 » by rl25g » Mon Aug 27, 2018 2:54 am

We won a one and done game in a blowout win against the Sparks, and are now 1-0 in a five game series against Atlanta in the semifinals.

Della Donne has 33 points today.

Anyone else watching/excited?

Game 2 is on Tuesday.

I watched the whole game. EDD was ballin' in their game 1 victory over the Atlanta Dream.

EDD does her knee. Didn’t see it, but it sounds bad.

She's listed as questionable. Just a bruise. I saw the play, she tried to dribble all the way down the floor and slipped on a wet spot. Everybody started Tweeting about the D.C. sports curse. She's a great player but does have a little Strasburg in her.

Tough to say. Last year Bryce Harper hyperextended his knee almost the same way and suffered a bone bruise. He was out six weeks if memory serves and wasn’t very good when he got back.

She can wear a brace, just play mainly the post and stand around. But sure, she's probably done for the year.

And with a hobbled EDD, no less! Hopefully, she can get healthy in time for the finals.

Yes siree! Mystics in the WNBA finals. Love it when a local team wins and advance. I went to the game last Sunday at GWU and hope to catch at least one of the final games.

Ariel Atkins has replaced the now-retired Tamika Catchings as my favorite WNBA player.

That's two Cap One Arena tenants in their league finals. First the Stanley Cup champion Caps now the Mystics. And the Washington Valor, who also play at Cap One, won the 2018 Arena League Football championship. Could the Zards be next? :D

My understanding is it was basically pick your poison: Phoenix with Taurasi being on a heater plus Brittney Griner or Seattle with Sue Bird and Stewart. They were 1-2 vs. Seattle but their losses were by a combined 10 points and they just beat the Storm by 23 like a month ago.

Also this is why Ted wants the arena in SE DC. Having to play the WNBA Championship games in a college gym is a little embarrassing.

But the only reason they are not in Cap One is because of the major renovations currently taking place there. But the Mystics could use a smaller arena--like the one that's being built in SE--where having 5,000 people in attendance won't look like an empty arena.

Ted must have liked watching the Seattle Storm.

Great ball movement. Smart floor spacing. Lots of running without the ball. They were far better than the Mystics.

Yup... even if Della Donne was 100%, this is still Seattle in 4 or 5 games.

But its OK. Mystics had a great run  no shame losing to this Storm team. Stewart and Howard were dominant tonight. Bird as always orchestrating well.
