RealGM Top 25 Player Poll-#12 2018-19

Post#1 » by Filthadelphia » Tue Aug 28, 2018 6:54 pm

We have debates all the time in various threads over who is better so I thought what better time than summer to see where the General Board lies in its view of the top 25 best players.

I'll update each new poll with the rankings of the last and the percentages of who won.
There's only 10 options per poll so new options will be added as we get lower and lower.

Lets come to a consensus. Feel free to comment who you voted for and why.

If you think someone else should be in the poll who is not there please comment and i'll adjust accordingly.
alessandrux wrote:
I would appreciate it if you can state clearly the procedure.

We vote daily(?) the best player among those who are remaining (and in the poll)?
And after each day, you remove said best voted player, list him as the next best player on our bestlist and start a new poll with the remaining players?

From your players I would replace Irving with Embiid

These are the procedures, yes. Every winner will be removed and then a new entrant will be included on the next poll.

Winner of Poll #11: Joel Embiid (PHI)-37% (As of creation of poll #12)

RealGM Top 25 Players 2018-19:
1) LeBron James (LAL)-72%
2) Kevin Durant (GSW)-39%
3) Stephen Curry (GSW)-53%
4) Anthony Davis (NOP)-39%
5) James Harden (HOU)-45%
6) Kawhi Leonard (TOR)-50%
7) Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL)-56%
8) Russell Westbrook (OKC)-47%
9) Chris Paul (HOU)-43%
10) Jimmy Butler (MIN)-33%
11) Joel Embiid (PHI)-37%

Added to Poll: Kyle Lowry (TOR)

New System Alert: Vote for who you want in the poll but in order to add new people COMMENT IN THE THREAD.
For example, if you want Marc Gasol added next just comment "Marc Gasol" or "Gasol" and i'll tally up the votes and add whoever is the most popular.
ONLY VOTE ONE NAME PER THREAD

Feel free to leave other comments as usual.
Thanks for your participation so far everyone!

This is the yet-to-be-added field: (If someone is not here that you want here comment THAT and I will add them)

Torn between Lillard and Oladipo here. Nominate John Wall, Ben Simmons or Al Horford to be added.

Nikola Jokic for me, maybe Gobert or Towns. But definitely one of these three.

Also...where the heck is DeMarcus Cousins?

Boogie/Wall/Porzingis/Hayward are feeling the wrath of injuries/recency bias. In Boogie's case I guess there's a concern he'll never be as good as he was.

Voting Draymond. From 2015-2017 he was arguably top 5 in impact, slipped a little last year but you can likely attribute that to apathy. Still think he's 1B to Gobert's 1A on defense, and is skilled enough at everything on offense outside of scoring to have a positive impact there. I think he's the greatest "role player" of all time.

I'd add Simmons to the poll.

Yeah but to not even be an option? Crazy talk. Dude's coming off a year where he was averaging 25/13/5.5...these are historic numbers.

Jokic, the alternative is some another center, KAT or Gobert.

Next IN should be John Wall because Washington is clearly the best team which is still not represented in these polls so far.

True but I get the sense this poll is about who is better now as opposed to who played better last year. I'm not a Boogie hater but there's also the reality that the Pels did just fine without him. Redundancy between him and AD was likely a big reason for that.

This poll is about the 2018-19 season, so Hayward and Wall will play since the early start.

Then don't vote for him, but the notion that he doesn't deserve to at least be an option on the poll at this point is nonsense.

I've tried to be fair and restrained all along but it's finally to the point where I feel like I can vote Jokic without being a total homer.

Go ahead and add Cousins.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be, but I don't consider it nonsense. These things should be viewed in relation to who has/hasn't made the cut, and he's not decisively ahead of the guys I mentioned. If this was 9 months ago? Different story.

Would you take Cousins and his injury uncertainty over a healthy Horford or Simmons? I don't think the gap between a healthy Boogie and those guys is so large that he'd stay ahead of them without knowing how good he'll be returning from that achilles. Keep in mind NBA GMs wouldn't give him over $5M to play this season.
