I disagree....... with Knight being more "Movable". This league is all about "What have you done for me lately", and what has Knight done as of late? Jack s**t! He is always injured and when not he brings nothing more then mediocre play to the team. On the other hand you have Anderson who is one of the best 3 point shooting stretch 4's in the league. Stretch 4's are a hot commodity in the league, and the only reason why Anderson hasnt been is because of his large contract. On the other hand PG's in the league are a dime-a-dozen and the reason nobody wanted Knight was because of his play. Im also reading that there is a strong possibility that Houston just buys Knight out.

As for Chriss/Melton, i was a huge Melton fan in the draft and had him rated higher than many PG's. He is very Marcus Smart like, outstanding defender, solid distributor/passer, but was advertised as someone who needed work on his shooting.

He played pretty damn solid in Summer League, averaged 30 minutes with 16.4 Points (38%FG;30%3PT), 4 Assists, 7 Rebounds, 3 Steals, a Block, and only 3 TO's.

Now he missed last season due to a family member taking money from an Agent (reason he slid as far as he did), but he was outstanding his freshman season and was the only player in the NCAA to average 10/5/5/2.5/1 (Only 7 players in the history of college basketball have done that including DWade).

Melton is a very very solid pick-up for us, but im worried that he wont be staying a Sun. Houston never signed him, so we own his rights. We currently have Okabo/Canaan/Shaq under contract, so i think that he maybe moved in whatever trade it is that would be netting us the starting PG that we are supposedly chasing. Im guessing the other team would rather go for the high upside unknown player in Melton rather than Shaq or Canaan.

For sure loving this roster now! :D

King is already on a 2 way contract, I think it would be Williams

Somehow an injured season and his contract have somehow turned Ryan Anderson into a player with the same impact as Brand knight of all people? Knight was never going to be a fit in Koko's system with his ball stopping, instead we get a 3 pt sniper to spread the floor for Book and Ayton to go to work. Ryan will be the channing frye to help create open shots like we saw with Hornaceks first season.

Dragic would be an awesome point guard to run Kokoskovs system with this team. If only there wasn't all the historical drama.

That's interesting. I wonder if they have an agreement with him to buy him out and stretch next summer.

This actually makes things pretty interesting and pushes the trade more in favor of the Suns. It certainly makes the BK for Ryno trade basically a wash so it's essentially Chriss for Melton.

Given that, the Suns actually cleared +/- $4 million by swapping Chriss for Melton. Like Anderson's fit better than Knight. This makes the deal more palatable but this has to mean TJ is out in a trade for a PG. The 3/4 is log jammed in a way only McD can do.

If the Suns get Rozier - I would think it would be a three team deal. Maybe Ainge takes a guy like WArren or Josh but they have so many SF as it is. So, I think if the Suns get Rozier - - well I don't know what three team trade I could come up and quite frankly - its the summer and out of practice so don't have the inclination to "Bill Simmons" one up :) - but my hunch is if the Suns get Rozier, its a multiple team deal.

I don't hate this move in a vacuum but considering what McD gave up for Knight and Chriss isn't this like getting super drunk and puking on the floor then getting credit for cleaning it up the next morning.

LOL I was trying to decide if he was serious and then saw your post. We trade an unprotected Lakers pick, Bogdanovic, and two other first rounders (13 and 28) for a bloated Ryan Anderson contract and the 46th pick.

Arizona radio (Bickley and Marotta) talking about the idea of which PG we could go after. Rozier was discussed as most realistic.

I still don't see them dealing him without assurance that Irving will be re-signing.

I could see the Celtics making Rozier available now more so than he was previously, as Irving was still up in the air (How he was doing coming back from injury, how he was mentally, if he would be good with re-signing in Boston), with everything looking good and all reports being that he is back to his old self and wanting to be a Celtic, this now makes Rozier or Smart very available for the right price (They also drafted Shane Larkin @ PG as well).

Smart is locked in for the next 4 seasons. He also holds a very valuable skill that the Celtics need which is being a strong defensive guard (One of the top defensive guards in the league). That means when Kyrie is on the bench, they have a player in stopping the opposing teams flow and shutting down ball movement (Along with the other teams scoring), which is huge. You dont want to rest you star player only for your back-up to allow the opposing team to get back in the game, and Smart stops that.

Scary Terry kinda scares me. Boston player in a Brad Stevens system, comes out of nowhere and makes a name for himself....and in my opinion was very very very overhyped. Even in his breakout season he was very up and down. Actually he really didnt play that great all season (Besides a handful of games), his only real breakout came in the playoffs. He played solid in the first round against the Bucks, played pretty damn good in the 2nd against the Sixers, and was pretty trash against the Cav's. Seriously, look at the game logs, its amazing how overhyped this kid got.

Honestly if we were going after a Celtic, i'd rather grab Smart, but i have a feeling that the FO is looking for a starting caliber PG that is on the final year of his contract. Word is that if we do end up letting Anderson go, we can be clearing up to $49M next season when guys like Dragic/Kemba/Rubio/Russel/Dimwiddie are all FA PG targets.

I agree looking back - it’s hortible. But I am glad the Suns didn’t think they needed to keep Chriss and Knight to make it seem like those deals were working but costs are sunk so move ahead.

Now I don’t like seeing how little the Suns got but whatever. The Suns Core4 are Booker Ayton Jackson and Bridges - Okobo , Melton , Warren , whomever moving forward.

D'Angelo Russell would still be my target as our starting PG.

I think TJ Warren could be a star in Brooklyn. Their team is literally a Who's Who of

I don't know that Melton is a better prospect than Chriss, but he certainly has a better shot of being part of the core than Chriss had. I didn't see any scenario where Chriss thrived next to Ayton. I really struggled to see his place in Koko's system. Can't finish, can't pop, can't handle the ball or create for others.

With Ryno taking a hit to his guaranteed cash, you can consider him and Knight a wash. I would have traded Chriss straight up for Melton, though it hurts to consider how little Melton cost the Rockets and how much Chriss cost us. So the trade in isolation I'm more than fine with. If you look at the constituent components of the deal, though, it looks awful:

2018 #10 pick + 2011 #13 pick (Markieff-->2016 #13 pick) + IT (-->2016 #28 pick) + Luis Scola (-->2014 #27 pick-->Bogdan) + Marcin Gortat (2014 #18 pick-->Ennis)

for

Ryan Anderson + 2018 #46 pick (Melton)

Can we deduct the loss on this deal? Yeesh.

I don't think so. The injury history is too substantial. If we're making a playoff push, we need a player we can count on to play.
