Yes!! thought the exact same thing. That real move-stop-flick. Not overly fluid but it goes in...

I think there was a report earlier that they were going to give him a 4 year contract with guaranteed money the first year or two, probably similar to Okobo's, so, if that's the case, no.

We don't have the cap space to give him a 4 year contract. Room Exception contracts can't be longer than 2 years.

I like the group of young PG's but I have no confidence going into the season with those 3 as our rotation PG's. Not one of them is proven aside from Canaan.

I thought Arenas' shot was more in the front of his head? Quick trigger? Melton's looks more on the side and not in front. Maybe that's just me, though?

Are you assuming Melton is ahead of Okobo even though we took Okobo in the draft at a spot we could have taken Melton?

Thats what im assuming. While Okobo might eventually be the better player years down the line, i also believe Okobo is really really raw and will need years to work on his game and mature, while i think Melton is definitely more suited to be an impact from day one.

Draft position doesnt matter. There have been plenty of examples in the past of a team drafting 2 players at the same position and end up playing the lower picked guy more because he is more game ready. Bulls playing Taj over Johnson is one that comes to mind.

It really wouldnt surprise me, as Okobo needs to adjust to being in the US (Like a lot of foreign players), learning to speak the language a bit better (Like a lot of foreign players), and all in all work on his game more as damn near every draft site said he has high upside but is still really really raw.

He's more of a combo guard though who ideally would be a secondary ball handler. Okobo is a better passer and scorer/shooter. It more really depends on what you are looking for. But they both have nice wingspans and Okobo can probably be a capable defender as well. Interesting you think he's further along when he didn't even play last year and Okobo grew by leaps and bounds in a pro league.

The Stepien had Melton ranked higher though and I know everyone loves their opinions.

If the Suns were so high on Melton why wasn't he drafted over Okobo?

Melton is listed as SG in Woj's article. He could transition into a true PG but he is really more of a combo guard as bw said.

Melton, a shooting guard, was the 46th pick in the June draft out of USC.

Okobo should've been a lotto pick.
Melton should've an been early second round.

I guess without seeing him for a year it only made sense that he dropped so low, but Melton is a solid value pick that could have a great career once he gets back into game shape. He posted mediocre stats in the combine, but that might just be cobwebs. If he never improves athletically, I dunno if he can be consistent against elite PGs, and will likely be relegated to a key bench role. If he improves, he might just be starter material.

Maybe the rule is different if the player is traded, but I think September 5th is the last day for teams to issue required tenders to unsigned second-round picks; those players become free agents on September 6 if not tendered.

Have we already signed him and it just hasn't been announced?

As far as I know we haven't signed him but we intend to. So I'm not sure what the hold up is unless they are looking to move him again?

The only thing I saw is this, and it's not even a real reliable source....this is a mod from the Celtics forum..he posted his summer league thoughts here. It does seem like he has built quite a few connections though and I've seen Marc Stein retweet him.

They could have like them both but chose Okobo because they had more recent tape on him. After all Melton had not played for a year. Once they saw Melton in summer league, maybe they decided they wanted him.

Scouting players is a fluid thing. Only fools form an opinion and then are unwilling to change it.
