I'm ok with that because I'm looking to 2019. They can pick up some depth.

Niners should probably trade Joe Staley. Problem is I don't like 69 at LT at all. Should've drafted Josh Rosen. They would've been able to trade him for a king's ransom.

Maybe the Raiders would take Staley in a package for Khalil.

It's been a while since I proposed a crazy trade deal, so there ya go. :D

It's highly unlikely Staley is going to be enough for them to move on from the Kolton Miller experiment at LT thing and they're in a similar situation with Donald Penn at RT as the 49ers are with Staley. Old guy they're comfortable with who isn't going to play that much longer.

I don't see them taking a 34-year old Staley under most reasonable circumstances and it would be next to impossible for me to propose one involving Mack.

They'd likely ask for the picks and/or another player other than Staley to get it done.

----

At this point I don't know how much you can expect to get for Staley.

History of tackle trades lately:

A 31-year old Jared Veldheer went for a 6th.

The Cordy Glenn trade likely doesn't apply much (too young).

A 33-year old Duane Brown and a 5th round pick brought back a '19 second-rounder and a '18 3rd rounder.

Years ago when Ryan Clady was traded at 31, he was moved with a 7th round pick for a 5th-round pick.

A 32-year old Chris Clark went for a 7th-rounder as did a mid-30s Bryant McKinnie.

-----

With that it's starting to take us pretty far back. Your saving hope would be to hope for a Duane Brown type of thing but I wouldn't put myself in the likely category on that one.

If the Kolton Miller-Penn thing didn't exist and you're going to get Mack, Staley's age would probably make him a footnote in any deal IMO. You're still dealing with a 1 probably. A one, Staley, and (insert other valuable(s) here). Just guessing even if I take Miller/Penn out of thought.

I like this trade we did with Cleveland. Also I think this Jerick MicKinnon injury is going to be a blessing in disguise. A lot of RBs in FA that fit the bill to replace McKinnon:
Charcandrick West, Mathew Hayes, Charles Sims, Larry Rose III

My fault. Read he was waived, didn't realize he was injured

Less excited now that Cooper was cut (his salary was like 5M). I guess he wasn't healthy enough soon enough to consistently show he was worth that money.

Still can't believe they left Wyatt Teller on the board.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-the-nfls-top-10-run-blocking-offensive-lines-for-2018

PFF ranks the 9ers at 10 for run blocking.

Can't see the overall ranking because that's paywalled off but I do think the line play overall should be solid this season.

Why is that?

Now imo is was stupid of us to let go of Trent Brown to draft a RT in the first round. If it were Kolton Miller who has the potential to become a franchise LT, I'd like the pick but McGlinchey didn't make us better or worse than Brown.

At center we're lightyears better. At guard we're either the same or worse than last year.

Agree 100% about Trent Brown. You won't find anybody who was more upset about 1) letting him go 2) to Belicheck. Unfortunately, the move to ZBS was the writing on the wall for Brown.

But if Kolton Miller becomes a franchise LT I will eat my hat.

My hopes were dashed when Cooper was cut.

Mike Person is garbage, Tomlinson is below average, and Garnett apparently can't stay healthy. :banghead:

Garnett was acting like his leg was blown off. Then I read it was a foot injury and he was walking OK after the game. WTF?

Yeah, I was initially really concerned he would be out a long time (haven't heard any update), but then I was thinking about that game where Staley went down...and was like writhing around and screaming...and then played the next week. He made some self-deprecating comments about it afterward.

He dislocated his two. I mean, I feel like Olinemen have played through a lot more pain than that

Just for fun, consider this trade.

Mike McGlinchey for Trent Williams. Straight up.

Skins get younger & cheaper, which is great for a rebuild team. Niners upgrade at tackle but pay big money (to win now).

Plus, Williams can play LT when Staley retires or gets injured. And he can step in without the team missing a beat. And it doesn’t take a draft pick to make it happen.

Skule goes to RG, and the OL is suddenly top-3 in the league. And the rook from today (Brunskill) provides depth.

What say you?

If his injury history was cleaner It'd be worth a consideration but he's only played a full 16 game season twice in his career and the last one was in 2013 and with him being 30 he's not likely to get less injury prone.

I'd just rather keep the cheaper help in McGlinchey because you have to consider Kittle and Buckner are going to be due monster contracts and try to lock up some of the other defensive lineman who are going to need contracts as well.

The best win now move I feel we could make is if we could land a legit #1 WR but there doesn't seem like there is going to be a market for that.

You could be right. But Andrew Luck has made me appreciate the OL even more lately (would-be HOFer ruined by an OL that was s**t until it was too late).

As far as Trent Williams' injury history goes, it's true he's only played all 16 twice. But he's played 13 or more 4 other seasons, and he's never played fewer than 10. I don't think that's a terrible percentage.

In fact, McGlinchey will now be below Trent's percentage in games played when he comes back.

31 isn't really that old for an OL.

Brown for McGlinchey trade won't happen. Shanahan loves McGlinchey who is an athletic elite run blocker that he covets. He is younger than Williams and a whole lot cheaper. I doubt the 49ers want to take on WIlliams salary when they have McG on the cheap. Even if the 49ers were interested in such a trade, Snyder hates the Shanahan's and is never going to enter into a trade with the 49ers as long as Shanahan is coaching the team.
